The collection is an incredible mix of styles, offering sexy mini dresses, but also practical maxi pieces in which one can almost get lost or get into twice over in the least. Another apparent identifying feature of the collection is layering that is clearly a great favourite of Balenciaga at the moment.
For the collection of the upcoming season, creative director, Demna Gvasalia, has chosen bright and vibrant colours, strong motifs and structures. Inter alia, the models presented animal and floral prints or the indefatigable check. An incredibly wide range of colours appeared on the catwalk - from timeless black through bright reds to striking pink. Do you want to avoid autumnal boredom? The luxury collection includes some very sexy mini-dresses or stylish checked overcoats, which give the figure an hourglass silhouette.
Shortly after introduction of the 2018 autumn collection, the fashion house stated that it joined forces with the World Food Program, WFP, an organisation under the auspices of the UN so as to put an end to famine by 2030. Balenciaga would like to involve its customers in the global problem and assist a good cause - through fashion. From 25. 8. 2018 to 1. 2. 2019 the luxury brand will therefore provide 10% of the price of each product sold, designated by the WFP label, for these purposes. At the same time Balenciaga has already donated the organisation a sum of $250,000.
Balenciaga presented a collection which fared far better than the last one and above all made a gesture which we appreciate. Will others follow this example? Let them surprise us.
The Spanish brand Balenciaga by its wilderness of colours and designs obviously did not just fight against famine, but also against conservatism as such. I do not know, I don´t wish anyone to take offence, but that outfit with beige quilted jacket, a red scarf, checked skirt, zebra-patterned boots and a giant black bag, that is me to the dot, chaotic arriving at the local co-op one minute before closing time. I always put on charcoal-black sun glasses so that nobody could recognise me dressed in such horror. And here it obviously did so well that it entered the Fashion Week?!
What I do love about the collection are definitely the mini sapphire-blue dresses fashioned from velvet. These dresses are sexy, chic and beautifully envelop the female figure. I would not be afraid to wear it myself, despite my naturally wider hips. Why hide under some layering?!
And what other plus side did the collection bring? Balenciaga is another collection after Prada who placed its bet on neon colours. As you may imagine, in such attire you won´t be run over by a car ...but that is about all.
