During the year, we usually don’t pay much attention to fairytales. But when Christmas time is here, nearly all of us look forward to seeing our favorites once more. And each of us has a favorite, one that they’re really fond of. So, what’s yours?
How did the board vote, which fairytale won the poll? Well, there’s no single winner – instead, we have 3 which share the first place. These 3 luxurious fairytales which have a special place in our hearts are: S čerty nejsou žerty (Give the Devil His Due), Tři oříšky pro popelku (Three Wishes for Cinderella) and Šíleně smutná princezna (The Incredibly Sad Princess).
We all love the calculating Máchalová, which gets what she deserves in the end, and the forgetful devil played by the young Ondřej Vetchý. This fairytale dating back to 1984 did not only score among the first in our small poll, but is also one of the most popular ones in general. This is due to its wits, a simple and clear story, a perfect depiction of various characteristic traits, excellent actors and the most beautiful hell on earth!
Without the beautiful Libuška Šafránková and the manly yet young Pavel Trávníček, this luxurious fairytale would probably never be as successful as it is now. The evil stepmother and her daughter are also two characters that we simply adore – especially when the mother does all she can to force the small shoe on the huge foot of her daughter to prove that she was the beautiful damsel from the ball. A charming fairytale with songs performed by Karel Gott, a must-have for every Christmas!
A witty fairytale with the beautiful Helena vondráčková and Václav Neckář from 1968 won all of our hearts. After all, do you know of any better pair of advisors than the scheming Iks and Ypsilon (Josef Kemr, Darek Vostřel) with their hymn “Kujme pikle, pikle kujme”? A witty story about an unwanted engagement, which ends with love, is a must-see every Christmas.
The last two fairytales, which are also among the most popular and in fact only received one vote less than the first three, are Princezna se zlatou hvězdou (The Princess with the Golden Star) and Mrazík (Frosty).
This luxurious Czech fairytale from 1959 has the excellent Josef Zíma playing a kind and good prince. The beautiful and beloved princess Lada immediately falls in love with the prince, but needs to hide in the kitchen. Do you remember the sympathetic young cook, proud of his order, and the evil Kazisvět, who wanted to have the princess for himself? A lovely rhymed fairytale which will help you forget about your personal problems and can make everyone smile.
Even though Frosty is not a Czech fairytale, we’re happy to consider it “our own”. The narcissistic Ivan learns about what’s really important in life thanks to old Hříbeček, and the spoiled Marfuša will get a cart pulled by pigs instead of a luxurious horse carriage. What’s there not to love? We’re already looking forward to Frosty waving his magic wand this year!
