The German fashion designer, Philipp Plein and the graffiti artist, Alec Monopoly, joined forces and created a luxury collection Resort 2018, which was presented at the Art Basel fair in Miami. The unusual and ironic graphics in combination with luxurious materials were used to create hand-painted sneakers, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, leather jackets as well as handbags.
Alec Monopoly is a graffiti artist who comes from New York. He works primarily in urban environments around the world, using in his creations a variety of materials - epoxides, templates, spray varnishes and so on. In this revolutionary way his work now presents the great personalities of the iconic pop culture. Contrariwise, Philipp Plein is characterised by non-conventional and non-conformist style combined with perfect workmanship and finish.
The mix of relaxed urban art and luxurious world of fashion created a collection full of wild pieces! Some of them are adorned with the Monopi character, a variation of the Monopoly Mana from the popular board game, Monopoly. The character is surrounded by dollar banknotes, and is wearing a bandana, which is characteristic for this graffiti artist.
The collection Resort 2018 is not the first joint effort of these artists. It was at a Cannes festival where they demonstrated what they can do when they join forces! And how was created the luxurious Resort 2018? "Philipp was looking at my portfolio and we selected the most powerful images, which we thought would look the best on clothes. Then I altered some of these images."
Cocktails were also enjoyed by the Swedish playmate, Victoria Silvstedt or the daughter of Kurt Cobain - Frances BeanCobain!
The guests at Art Basel also included some really well-known faces. The model, Victoria Silvstedt, the American singer and only daughter of Kurt Cobain, Frances BeanCobain, or the rapper, Smokepurpp also came to enjoy cocktails and the presentation of the fashion collection, Resort 2018.
The brilliant stroke of Philippe Plein to join forces with the graffiti artist Alec Monopoly was definitely worth it. For ma, designer Plein is a little bit boring, but now his collection finally has the right kind of zest.
Youthful rapacity wherever you look. Most of all I like the rebelliously splashed sneakers all the way from the sole to the shoelaces; of course with the Monopoly character. I absolutely have to mention the striking black leather backpack with flying dollars and rhinestones in the corners. In short, this is a youthful collection, full of provocation and rebellion. I am certain that this will become a hit for a lot of people!
Of course, there is a bit of resemblance of the now almost unknown brand Ed Hardy (which was at one time really hot) but the fashion industry forgets quickly. Where would one wear the luxurious pieces from the Resort 2018 collection? Basically to any party and my recommendation is the M1 club in the centre of Prague, because there you can see loads of similar models!
