Since the last Louis Vuitton show, in which Kim Jones said goodbye to the brand after many years, there has been a question mark over who would replace this talented designer. The deluxe Italian brand finally put paid to speculations and introduced its new director of the men’s collection - Virgil Abloh. He is no newbie to the world of fashion and he is acknowledged by stars such as Naomi Campbell!
The first show by Virgil Abloh will take place during men’s fashion week in Paris. And it will reveal whether Virgil Abloh will continue in the traditional spirit of Louis Vuitton or whether he will give the deluxe collection a completely new and distinctive appearance.
This nearly forty-year old American artist, architect, engineer, creative director and designer acquired the title of construction engineer at the University of Wisconsin Madion and continued to study architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He owns the deluxe Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh™ brand, which he established in 2012. Three years later he started to regularly present his collection at Paris Fashion Week. In 2015 Virgil Abloh and his brand were nominated for the finals of LVMH Paris. He is also the holder of many awards, including Internationals Designer of the Year and British Fashion Awards Ubran Luxe Award.
“I have observed Virgil’s star since he worked with me in 2016 at Fendi and I like seeing that his innate creativity and avant-garde style are enjoying success today – not only in the world of fashion but also in today’s pop culture. His sense of luxury and savoir-fair will accompany the Louis Vuitton men’s collection into the future.”
“I am honoured to be chosen for the post director of men’s collections at Louis Vuitton. The tradition and creative integrity of this brand is an enormous inspiration for me and I look forward to working with these values and seeking parallels for the present day.“
