Although Valentino in its luxury collection 2018/19 FW more or less sticks to black and grey classics, it was not afraid of vivid colours, radiating optimism. Set out to the rainy autumnal nostalgia and cold winter in lush coral or positively-tuned yellow!
Timelessness, elegance and charm are the cornerstones of the luxurious Valentino brand. Creative Director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, sticks to this concept and maintains perfect balance between traditional craftsmanship and a modern design, but at the same time breathing fresh energy into his models. His approach was also reflected in the current FW 2018/19 collection in which the designer reached, apart from black and grey, for optimistic colours.
It is clear at first glance, that the basis of the luxury collection is black and grey classic pieces. The dark tonal palette is however perfectly balanced out by vibrant colours, including coral, cyan, green or yellow. Glossy black jackets are also enlivened by passionate red or bordeaux.
In the creation of the collection creative director Pierpaolo Picioli let himself be inspired by the rich history of Italian art, Pablo Picasso and music of the 1970s and 1980s. The collection thus bears elements of aristocratic punk, but a romantic side to manliness.
The luxury collection in itself carries an element of modern elegance and is made up of slim-fit items - narrow trousers, coats or goose down jackets. An important role is also played by embellishments and embroidery - there are also tiger prints, geometric shapes, button applications, or camouflage fabric which adorns luxury bags as well as coats and jackets. A bit of zest is leant to the outfits by their being combined with white sneakers and tops with metal pins are that extra bit of innovation, giving the models a hallmark of aristocratic punk.
The latest Valentino collection really demonstrates the fact that it was inspired by the ingenious Picasso. For laymen, there was a certain degree of mix & match.
On the one hand, I really had fun with that playfulness that I see in those deep-black models. For example the long coat with silver buttons in combination with a classic cardigan, trousers and cosmically silver sneakers is superb! Wonderfully laid-back but elegant was the men's outfit appropriate even for city rounds (100% comfort guaranteed). In my opinion a big YES!
On the other hand there are those colourful trousers. Light blue and canary yellow is a recognised combination, but I really don´t have to see pink trousers in a man's wardrobe. I find it absolutely asexual and what is the point? Which is what they also said about Picasso...
