While the luxurious Molteni & C design can be admired directly in the shop window, the work of Alan Chan, a renowned artist from Hong Kong, remains hidden inside. Entering, however, definitely pays off! The elegant SILKROAD collection in a dark walnut colour thrilled us. It is inspired by the Kyoto bamboo forest and is the result of precise carpentry work.
Alan Chan has been working in the field of design and advertising for nearly 50 years. His SILKROAD furniture collection perfectly combines elements of Western culture with contemporary Asian aesthetics and reflects Western and Eastern encounters in the area of residential design. The collection was first presented in the Shanghai Pavilion during the Milan Expo 2015 and at the Milan La Triennale Museum, in the cultural center in Seoul - Dongdaemun Design Plaza, in the Block Thirty Seven shopping center in Chicago, in the Bund 18 shopping center in Shanghai, and in the Hong Kong City Hall.
The designer's inspiration for the collection were antique S-shaped conversation chairs that gained popularity during the 17th century in Victorian England and France. The luxury armchair is sometimes called the chair of lovers, because the serpentine seats with a joint backrest literally invite one to have a very intimate conversation.
The name is derived from the Silk Road and marks the sharing and linking of the West with the East, the past with the present, classic with modern style, craftsmanship with technology, functionality with shape, men with women and yang with yang.
How do you like the top design of creative artists? We fell in love with it, and maybe we'll take a luxury snake piece home to consolidate interpersonal relationships and a plethora of intimate conversations!
