The Czech Lion returns to Prague's Rudolfinum, where the 32nd edition of the prestigious film awards will take place. The grand evening, which will again be broadcast live by ČT1 from 20:10, promises not only the recognition of the best film creators, but also a parade of fashion creations on the red carpet. Let's remind ourselves of the outfits that stood out, shocked or made an indelible mark in the history of the Czech Lion at the previous ceremonies.
It is not customary for government officials to attend award ceremonies. Andrej Babiš was a guest of the Czech Lion, with his now ex-wife Monika, twice. In 2016 and 2017. During these years he was the Minister of Finance and the First Deputy Prime Minister. While he opted for a classic (black tuxedo with a bow tie) on both occasions, his wife opted for sophistication and transparency. One year she chose a red dress with glittering applications and completed the outfit with a silver clutch, which didn't go well with the dress. The next year she wore a black provocative dress, the neckline of which was adorned only with lace, and the rest of the top part was transparent. For 2017, they were quite timeless dresses, for which any celebrity would not be ashamed even now. Although it's true, that today celebrities would definitely not wear a bra under this model.
There isn't a year when the most famous Czech actress would not look divine at the Czech Lion. She attends such societal events very rarely, but it is always worth it and everyone waits to see which model she will choose. Last year she bet on black simplicity, in 2022 on sparkle, in 2020 on shine and in 2018 on embellishments and embroidery, which was a major trend. She always complements each model with some expensive jewelry, for example in 2020 they were jewelry from the luxury brand Cartier. It seems that the sparkly dress from 2022 inspired Elizaveta Maximova a year later, when she wore a very similar model to what Aňa had. The actress is an inspiration for many and we can't wait to see what she will arrive in on the red carpet to Rudolfinum this year.
A week before the Český Lev awards in 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine broke out. No wonder that famous faces were deeply affected and this year, besides the relaxation of the covid measures, which were part of the previous year, was marked by support for the affected Ukraine. Guests expressed it by various badges with the Ukrainian flag, yellow-blue ribbons around the waist (Liana Janečková) or on the chest. However, the most yellow-blue color was on singer Olga Lounová, who came with her friend actress Aneta Kernová. Olga wore short yellow dresses and Aneta, for a change, blue. They walked side by side all evening and looked like a walking Ukrainian flag. Under normal circumstances, such dresses, especially their length, would be unacceptable at such a ceremonial event, but given the circumstances, this move was more than appropriate from them.
The actress, who won the Czech Lion for supporting role in the film Everything Will Be Okay in 2018, wore a dress at the awards ceremony in 2022 that, with its atypical cut, resembled female genitals. Without a doubt, the fashion piece is perfect and suited Eliška very well, however, the starching of the fabric on the front of the dress didn't ultimately turn out very well.
Last year there was a minor faux pas on the red carpet, which was definitely not planned. Singer and actress Eva Burešová thrilled everyone present in a black-blue model, which was breathtaking and she looked divine in it. With a long blue train, she was unmistakable until presenter and actress Eva Decastelo appeared on the carpet. She arrived in a model that was completely identical in color to the other one that the other Eva had. Even the color layout was the same - black fitted tube dresses with a large blue detail at the top. Yet there was one difference. Eva Decastelo had gloves connected to the train, which could be considered a minor difference. Same name, same dress, same look, something was off there.
Everyone surely remembers the blue dress that actress Jitka Čvančarová wore at the opening of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in 2021. The model stirred varied opinions in the public – some loved it while others hated it. Her ample cleavage was quite prominent in the dress. However, Jitka paid no mind to the criticism and surprised the crowd when she wore the same dress, albeit with a slight modification, at the Czech Lion in 2022. This year marked the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as we have already mentioned, so the blue color played into Jitka's hands. The idea was more than welcome, as at that time she demonstrated that the last thing she would think about is what to wear for the ceremonial "celebratory" evening.
The Czech Lion is annually one of the most watched events in the Czech Republic. It is not for nothing that this award is nicknamed the "Czech Oscars", which is why celebrities always choose the most unique robes. What will appear on the red carpet this year? We will find out tomorrow evening.
