Jinonice is a municipal district of Prague 5 and partly also of Prague 13, which is situated on the left bank of the Vltava River and it also consists of the Butovice area. Jinonice was an independent village up to 1922, when it became a part of Prague suburb. It is an ideal home for those who like modern living with an admixture of rural lifestyle and luxury nature at the fingertips.
Living in the vicinity of Prague nature beauty spots
It is mainly a villa district located in a hilly terrain. The most famous is a flat-topped Vidoule mountain (362 m) and the nearby Děvín (310 m). On the territory of Jinonice there is the Prokop´s Valley, which promises beautiful nature trips.
Not a prominent district, but with promising future
Jinonice, just like other Prague districts, is being renovated, with spreading new development projects; with a planned construction of a square and boulevards. The old Jinonice with a pond would have in these days resembled a picturesque Czech village were it not for modern office buildings towering in the background in the adjacent Nové Butovice district.
Jinonice have an interesting history and even though it has never been a great village; quite on the contrary, it was the seat of the Schwarzenberg dominion, located in the château there and its adjacent administrative buildings. This is to undergo a great change thanks to a developer project, Jinonice manor-house.
Jinonice will surprise you by the quantity of educational institutes
In Jinonice there is a new building of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Faculty of Charles University, which should be further extended by a new campus. There is also an elementary school and a number of nursery schools. There is a plan to build a new sports stadium. Nearby to the Radlická Street there are several secondary schools and in Butovice there is Wldorf-style elementary school, using the world-wide-popular ´Waldorf´ method.
Jinonice has a good network of public transport and there is also a train going there from the main station, which goes on to the Rudná u Prahy district.
