Adrenaline junkies and fun loving folks can once again look forward to the traditional St. Matthew's Spring Fair at the Prague Exhibition Grounds in Holešovice. According to the organizer Václav Kočka, who has been running the show for 56 years, this year's 425th edition will be quite exceptional. Among the innovations, the fifty-meter Ferris wheel with enclosed cabins and one of the extreme adrenaline attractions called The King, which made our test subject not only dizzy but also nauseous, are especially worth mentioning.

"It's insane, it takes you all the way to the top and the whole thing's spinning like crazy, my head and legs are still a mess. I'm shaking all over,"

one of the visitors of the fair admitted.

Other new attractions include the Sizzler and the Waltzer.

"I expected more of that Waltzer, but at least it didn't make me sick,"

laughs our test subject.

Firsthand experience

The organizer Václav Kočka himself is a proof that the St. Matthew's Spring Fair is for everyone, admitting that until recently he has been personally testing all the attractions.

"It's incredible how fast the era is moving. I mean the technology, it's like cars. I try all those adrenaline attractions on myself,"

the almost eighty-year-old Kočka smiles.

Adults and children alike will come into their own. It goes without saying that refreshment stalls and farmers' markets are also present. Just like every year, tickets can be purchased online via Ticketportal, avoiding the queue for tickets at the entrance. On March 23, the fair will be organizing a day for handicapped children, including a concert at the Křižík Fountain.

The St. Matthew's Spring Fair will run from 22 February to 13 April. From Tuesday to Friday, the area will be open from 1 pm to 9 pm, on weekends from 10 am to 10 pm. During the work week, admission is free, on free days it's 30 crowns; children under 120 cm can come in for free.
