SS19 boasts the traditional spirit of the luxurious Japanese brand – timeless, experimental and innovative. The latest men’s collection mixes Indian style with sporty elegance, and a traditional element of Sacai. The combining of often radically different materials to create garments of unexpected shapes and contours. The cherry on the cake of the entire fashion show was a luxurious collaboration with sports giant NIKE.
The Sacai brand burst onto the fashion market in 1999, when it was founded in Tokyo, Japan, by talented designer Chitose Abe. Initially, she specialised more in purely women’s fashion, but ten years later came a turning point. The designer started creating men’s collection, founded on the same philosophy and approach as the women’s line. What’s more, this luxurious brand became a regular fixture at Paris Fashion Week as of 2009.
Could this mean that the hit of the forthcoming spring and summer season could be the Indian style on which the entire SS19 collection is based, or is it merely a unique feat to give the extravagant brand peculiarity? Whatever the case, dresses with Indian motifs and traditional headdresses are not the only thing the original brand has come up with.
The 2019 spring and summer collection also features denim, tops and trousers with striking geometric patterns, sweatshirts, cotton shorts and thanks to its collaboration with NIKE, also stylish sneakers and stretchy leggings. Sacai celebrated its 19th anniversary with this luxurious collaboration. Now we’re curious to see how it celebrates its jubilee, which is slowly but surely coming up…
When the guests read in the invitation that Japanese fashion combined with the Nike brand would be presented, nobody apparently knew what to expect on the catwalk.
To tell the truth, I was rather disappointed by the whole thing, because I can’t see anything that’s truly appealing to the eye. The only thing I can praise is the footwear. Specifically, I liked the white sneakers with various colourful stripes. If I were to browse the clothing section and had to choose something, then it would be the canary yellow wind jacket with the interesting sleeves. I find it pretty cool for dreary rainy weather, when the sky is dominated by white.
As for the rest? To me it looks like a mix of cuttings of various fabrics from a seamstress in the suburbs. To buy or not to buy? The answer is obvious: definitely not, in my case. God bless Balmain!
