She missed a functional bag which would be stylish at the same time, so she designed her own.
Her life was snuffed out prematurely at 55 years of age, while she managed to build something that other designers can only dream of. Kate Spade, with real name Katherine Noel Brosnahan, build a luxury brand Kate Spade New York on attractiveness and functionality. It is precisely these two characteristic she thought were lacking in the market of handbags. She abandoned her post of editor of fashion accessories section for the magazine Mademoiselle and started to design them herself.
Luxurious handbags as a symbol of maturity and prestige
She founded her brand in 1993 and the iconic handbags immediately became a hit specially of young girls and cosmopolitan women building a career due to their cute and smart appearance. The luxurious handbags represented a symbol of maturity and prestige, while for young women they were more affordable than for example Chanel or Fendi. Later on the designer expanded her line by luxury clothing, footwear, jewellery and other accessories or fashion for children.

While Ivanka´s contribution appealed to all those who are suffering from depression and consider suicide to seek expert assistance, Chelsea recalled her first handbag by Kate Spade that was given to her by grandmother during her university studies, and which she owns to this day.
