French President Emmanuel Macron, in a speech to the French army on Monday as Donald Trump is returning to power, called on Europe to "wake up" and spend more money on defense, thereby reducing its security dependence on the United States.
In his New Year's speech to soldiers at the headquarters of the digital and cybernetic support of the army based in western France, Macron pointed out the expected changes in Washington's foreign policy, especially regarding the war in Ukraine, and stated that this is an "opportunity for European strategic awakening". He further stated: "What will we do in Europe tomorrow, when our American ally withdraws its warships from the Mediterranean? Or if it sends its fighters from the Atlantic to the Pacific?" The French president said according to agency AP.
A teacher prevented a shooter in a school
In Rudolfov near Ceske Budejovice, a student returned from the bathroom armed with a firearm, which he pointed at the teacher in the classroom. However, she reacted very quickly, took the gun from him and incapacitated him. The attacker allegedly had other cold weapons with him.
"The student went to the bathrooms, came back to the class with a weapon and really wanted to shoot at the teacher, which he failed to do. The teacher reacted very quickly and promptly and neutralized the attacker. What is shocking, however, is that the student also had other weapons on him," commented the South Bohemian Governor Martin Kuba (ODS) on the spot according to CTK.
