The day after his supporters occupied the US Capitol, the incumbent US President Donald Trump publicly acknowledged his defeat in the presidential election for the first time, promising to do all he can to peacefully hand over power to incoming President Joe Biden. For many weeks, the Republican candidate was claiming that the election had been rigged and he had in fact won. He had been calling on his supporters to fight for his victory until a crowd of Trumpists invaded the US Congress and four people lost their lives in the violent demonstrations.
"Now, Congress has certified the results. A new administration will be inaugurated on January 20. My focus now turns to ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power. This moment calls for healing and reconciliation,"
wrote Trump on his Twitter once his 12-hour ban on this social network expired. He also thanked his supporters and stated that their incredible journey together had only just began.
Bitcoin passed the CZK 850,000 mark

The most popular cryptocurrency in the world, Bitcoin, surpassed 40,000 US dollars for the first time in history. Its current maximum is $ 40,402 (CZK 863,390). Bitcoin has increased about sevenfold in the last ten months. It wasn't until last Saturday that it reached $ 30,000 for the first time. In the next five days, it added another 10,000 US dollars. After reaching the milestone of $ 40,000, there was a brief period of big sales and a drop to $ 36,000. In recent hours, however, Bitcoin has been on the rise again and is currently trading at $ 38,408 (as of January 8, 2021, 6:30 a.m. CET).
On Tuesday, JPMorgan strategists wrote that Bitcoin had already become a competitor to gold. If it becomes a safe asset, they expect a gradual increase in its value up to the $ 150,000 mark (more than 3.2 Czech crowns).

The American airline Boeing has agreed to pay an astronomical amount to settle criminal charges. It undertook to pay 2 and a half billion US dollars (more than 53 billion Czech crowns). Boeing, which celebrates its 105th anniversary this year, has been accused of hiding information from security officials about the design of its 737 Max aircraft. The US Department of Justice said the company had chosen profit over sincerity, which had prevented oversight of the aircrafts, which caused two fatal accidents. About $ 500 million of the total amount will go to the families of the 346 people killed in the two plane crashes.
"firmly believe that entering into this resolution is the right thing for us to do - a step that appropriately acknowledges how we fell short of our values and expectations. This resolution is a serious reminder to all of us of how critical our obligation of transparency to regulators is, and the consequences that our company can face if any one of us falls short of those expectations,"

It introduced a new logo and packaging for its products. The fast food chain has unveiled a modernized design that includes literally everything - from product packaging, through a new logo, menu and marketing visuals, to the uniforms worn by its employees. Burger King's customers will be able to see the beginnings of these complex changes in many places in the first few months of this year. The company aims to have the redesign fully implemented in its branches worldwide within the next few years. The company also stated that the rebrand reflected its recent commitment in the area of food quality after the removal of artificial food colorings, flavors and preservatives, as well as its promise of environmental sustainability.
