I don't know about you, but do you feel the same? How you feel so... stuffed into everything? You can't fasten the button on your pants, the bra is uncomfortable... you know what it is? I'll tell you. Extra pounds! They came inconspicuously, slowly and quietly, settling all over your body and are holding on for dear life. And they won't let go! Nevermind that, I and most adults will bite the bullet and then lose the weight with some effort, but what should children do that can't make sense of it yet?
According to WHO, more than 80% of children and 40% of adults suffer from lack of exercise. I think it's an alarming number. In the Czech Republic, every 7th child is obese, every 4th child is overweight. You don't have to be Einstein to find out that's probably wrong. Not only does it make the little ones look bad, but it has a negative impact mainly on their health. And they will suffer terrible problems as adults. Whether physical, health related or mental.
And now the coronavirus. The government has closed down all possible and impossible ways of living for us, which results in becoming one with chairs and sofas. Few people would just get up in the morning and go out for a run when it is so cold outside. Including me. Earlier, as in before corona, I got up at half past five every morning and set out for the gym, where I worked out or ran. On the weekend I'd go climbing, to the pool, the sauna and I don't know what else. And now? I can't be bothered. On my own? Outdoors? Brr! And I'm an adult who can calculate that with such negative behavior over a long period of time, it will affect not only my physique, but also the state of my finances, because then I will have to buy bigger clothes...
The child won't see add it up. They won't understand. They can't make sense of it. If a parent doesn't take them to their after-school activities or send them out with a ball, when they can't just go out with a friend to do whatever they want? They sit down in front of a TV, playstation or computer. What will happen? They'll become lazy, fat. When the parents are still sensible, there is a chance that they will force them to do something, but at that moment the parent becomes the number one enemy, because he annoys the child's life with "nonsensical blabbering" about health or the parent is so exhausted that they leave the child in their room, and then reaps rotten fruit in the form of visiting doctors who try to find out why the child is overweight and possibly diabetic...
Such a small fatty will grow into a much larger one, suffering from many diseases, lack of will to live, the nicer and slimmer ones will bully them at school, so they develop a mental disorder, and in adulthood will have a problem establishing relationships... This is how I could argue and make connections indefinitely.
It's a vicious circle, but it makes sense. In any case, government officials apparently did not think about this negative consequence of their regulations and measures. And right now, when some of those strict regulations could be relaxed again, the medical commission of the Czech Olympic Committee has written an appeal, clearly stating why they want the government to allow children and young people to play sports.
"One of the long-term effects, which will be reflected over time in physical and thus mental health, are restrictive limits on physical activity in the entire population, but especially in the young generation. It is clear that regular sports in schools and out of school bring more positive than negative stimuli for the body and the immune system. Without exercise, and therefore sufficient energy expenditure, there will always be a high risk of obesity. Its consequences can be observed to an increased extent live in the current days of the COVID-19 pandemic. "
I decided to appeal too. Not only for the government to finally open gyms, swimming pools, saunas and just about everything, but also to myself. I have to do something about my laziness and these pounds. And I appeal to you too - do something about it too, so that I'm not alone in it and I have some support from you, because everyone knows that two or more are better than one.
