From romance to science fiction

A unique online auction of film props will open in London in early December. You only have a few days left to register! The biggest attraction will definitely be a lightsaber from Star Wars, Brad Pitt's leather jacket from the movie Fight Club or the sexy boots worn by Julia Roberts in the movie Pretty Woman - also thanks to the fact that this cult romantic comedy recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. But that's just the beginning. Whether you're a fan war films, family comedies or fantasy movies, you will get your money's worth at the auction.

Almost a thousand items

Stephen Lane, CEO of the Prop Store, began to collect the movie props in the Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia in collaboration with various filmmakers, crew members, production companies and collectors. Around a thousand items from 350 films and television shows will go up for auction.

Pretty Woman fashion boots for CZK 300,000

These include the iconic black boots worn by Vivian Ward (Julie Roberts), the protagonist of the romantic comedy Pretty Woman. It was in these boots that she managed to charm her Mr. Big. The starting price will begin at 10,000 pounds, i.e. about 300,000 crowns.

“A lot of these artefacts are just thrown away at the end of production or certainly used to be. They were just disposed of or sold off,"

said Stephen Lane.

Many items appeared on the list unexpectedly this year. One such rarity was a piece from the film Labyrinth - a crystal ball that had been used by the late singer David Bowie, who even wrote five original songs for the movie. The price of the crystal ball is estimated at around 10,000 to 15,000 pounds, i.e. 300,000 to 450,000 crowns.

"We spent about three hours in an upstairs room watching all the Star Wars movies. It was a piece I thought someone would simply have to be interested in, that's the real excitement of what I'm doing,"

Stephen Lane said about the crystal ball.

Brad Pitt's leather bomber jacket

Cinephilles can also look forward to the red leather jacket worn by actor Brad Pitt in the drama Fight Club. According to estimates, the price of the leatherette garment worn by the legendary acting star will climb as high as to 30,000 pounds (900,000 crowns).

Tom Hanks' helmet

Other memorabilia you can get your hands on include Captain Jack Sparrow's hat from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranges Tides or the helmet worn by Tom Hanks in Save Private Ryan, signed by the actor.

Bond, James Bond

Among the most expensive items will definitely count Obi-Wan Kenobi's lightsaber from Star Wars, which is likely to climb to an astronomical 120,000 pounds (3,595,000 crowns). Slightly cheaper is Jack Nicholson's hat from the movie Batman (1989). According to estimations, it should be auctioned off for 30,000 pounds, i.e. 900,000 crowns. Those who like classics movies and the famous agent Bond will also find something to their liking. The auction will include James Bond's training suit from the 2012 film Skyfall. One of the cheapest items will be the snake-skin suit worn by Bill Nighy in the film Love, Actually. It sells for 400 pounds, i.e. about 12,000 crowns. That's actually quite affordable, don't you think?!

Online auction

The viewings and auctions usually take place in central London, but the coronavirus pandemic will significantly affect this year's auction and most events will take place online. At this point, Stephen Lan is still somewhat skeptical, because he believe that the pandemic has had an unexpected impact on interest in film props.

The two-day online auction will run on December 1 and 2 at the BFI IMAX cinema. You can register on the official Prop Store website before October 29.
