It was the year 2015 and Alessandro Michele had just taken up the position of Gucci's creative director. During his fashion week debut he introduced luxurious moccasins lined with kangaroo fur. This year the world could see nearly the same thing again. With the only difference being that the fur is faux now, an the eccentric fashion designer has decided to dip into the past and pull out even higher caliber weapons!

Courtney & Curt

One of the most eye-catching elements of the newest Fall 2020 collection is the inspiration by the late frontman of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, and his oversized jeans and knit sweaters. The collection also contains the legendary cheetah print coat, worn for a change by his rebellious wife Courtney Love.

The fur-lined moccasins are another key element. It'd seem that after five years in the business, Alessandro Michele is somewhat overcome with nostalgia, but the designer himself denies these claims:

“I haven’t got any nostalgia, I don’t cling to the past... I use the past because the past is a very interesting space.”

Bylo nás pět: Aka stylish fashion has a green light

And it's definitely true that the past is an interesting space and subject for creation. Do you remember the popular series Bylo nás pět? Or rather the stylish outfits comprised of shorts, a shirt, jacket and knee-socks in which the rowdy boys ran around a Czech town? Our fathers and grandfathers probably wore similar pieces, and now you can wear them too. Because these luxurious pieces are now coming back into the spotlight! Yes, yes, yes - we're into this!

Men vs. women

Last but not least, the collection deals with the issue of masculinity and its position in the contemporary fashion industry. So it isn't much of a surprise that the catwalk saw male models dressed in women's coats, knit sweaters with a duckling, dresses or tight fitting tops. Well, this image hurts us, from the female point of view, but the times are changing, whether we like it or not. And fashion? Fashion remains one of the most powerful tools with which to express who you truly are...

Gucci has probably seen a Czechoslovakian communist film

God, why? Why must you torment me with having to look at this mess? Alessandro Michele must have had some kind of nightmare as the creative director of Gucci after seeing some kind of Czechoslovakian 80's flick, otherwise I cannot fathom how this collection ever saw the light of day.

It might be nice that there are many materials, colors and cuts available now, but looking at these outfits I once again feel like I'm looking at the desperate youth in the 80's who didn't have anything much to choose from and had to stand in long lines just to get stupid jeans. For example, these oversized high-waist pants? Back then it may have only been corduroy, the quality here is something else, but even though Kurt Cobain was cool, this just isn't cool. It never was and it never will be. Period.

Hobos for the winnnn

Rugged elegance and total unkemptness are two very different things. Gucci managed to make them into one. This is what the gentleman here at Vysočany wears when he picks through trash every day. Either Alessandro took inspiration from him, or mister homeless robbed a model. Nevertheless, if I passed somebody dressed like this, I'd pass them a dollar.

Green is for the Christmas tree

Or water sprites. This is just one big ribbit. The shiny pants at this shade of green might trigger epilepsy in a person. Did you know that? Now you know. Looking at this photo for a longer while, I feel a seizure coming up. Cropped sweaters belong in the wardrobe of teenage girls with a nice flat tummy, not a dude, however thin he may be.

Jenny or Johnny

Is it a boy or a girl? I believe that if he took off the cutesy dress with the birdie, it'd be a rather handsome model. But for the love of god, I wouldn't even buy this dress for my five-year-old niece. Can you imagine sitting at a bar and this thing tries to buy you a drink? No! No! No!

This collection is one big flop. I have nothing more to say. Sorry.
