A memory of the greatest Czech star that passed away last October was tarnished and dishonored. A legal graffiti with a portrait of Karel Gott in České Budějovice lasted mere two months, before a vandal came and destroyed his likeness. Not only the author, known under the pseudonym Jack Reyes, but also local fans who admired the singer are very upset.
The street artist from České Budějovice immortalized Gott on a wall along the cycle path that connects the Vltava housing estate and the Prague housing estate at the beginning of November. According to their own words, the locals liked to stop by and look at his work; its destruction brought tears to their eyes.
"Whoever did this is an illiterate loser to me, and if I were him, I'd be so ashamed I'd die of embarrassment. This only proves how warped values have become - people don't treasure anything anymore and nothing is sacred to them,"
"P.S. to the hero who felt the need to prove his intelligence - the only thing you've proven to me is that you're a worthless artist and a worthless human being!"
Jack Reyes's supporters are expressing agreement with his status in their comments. No one has mercy on the vandal. Therefore, Reyes promised that by the end of the week, the portrait would be renewed.
Reyes still has the stencils and color shades he used in November. He said that he had been working on the stencils all day, which enabled him to put in only two more hours at the location.
Apparently, the issue is not just that the vandal doesn't like Karel Gott - most likely, he also holds a grudge against the author of the commemorative graffiti. Reyers has four creations on the legal wall and all of them have been damaged. Other paintings by different artists remained spotless.
Moreover, anyone can paint anything on the legal wall, but according to graffiti experts, these are no artistic pictures, just simple doodles that have nothing to do with art.
The 27-year-old native of Římov enjoys great popularity among the public, who express their continual support. In civilian life he makes a living as a house painter. In his spare time, he designs interiors and creates paintings and portrais on commission.
