The Czech Republic will soon celebrate 30 years of freedom. But freedom doesn't mean free business or travel - it also means freedom of expression in fashion. Following the example of foreign businesses, the so-called pop-up stores began to grow as mushrooms in the rain in Prague. An example of this is the BackYard design shop, where Czech actresses that support Czech designers agreed to meet.

Andrea Růžičková (Kerestešová), Jana Plodková and Míša Maurerová went to check out new luxury pieces of fifteen talented designers.

"I have my favorite designer here, Petra Hušpauerová, who designs tracksuit fashion under her brand Appart Label. It is very comfortable, and what's even better, it's made in the oversize style, which is great for me now that I'm pregnant. I can wear them now, as well as after giving birth,"

smiles the expectant mom of two. She admits that she doesn't mind that the cost of the clothes is a bit higher than in chain stores, because these pieces will last much longer.

Jewelry and clothing made to measure

In addition, she has quite an emotive relationship to this place. The wedding rings for herself and her husband Mikoláš were made by jewelry maker Nastassia Aleinikava, whom they could watch as she was creating them in the workshop, which is part of the showroom.

"I like original, but minimalist models, and I was intrigued by the designer Zdeňka Imreczeová here,"

actress Jana Plodková confided.

She is her own seamstress

Actress Míša Mauerová is known to sew her own clothes. She dresses herself as well as her children exclusively in her own models. But she likes to be inspired by professionals.

"I choose fashion that underlines the female form and look for sophistication in details, which is why I decided for a shirt dress by Jaroslava Jindráková's brand JJ. I've recently found a good sewing machine, so I started creating myself. Who knows, maybe I'll be exhibiting my models someday, too"

Maurerová hopes.

A gap in the market

Most designers started their business mainly because they were looking for something for themselves that the market simply did not offer. So they designed and sewed it for themselves, and their friends and families liked it so much that it motivated them to start making clothes for the people around them, which was just a step away from making their models accessible to the general public.

Young Slovak designer Petra, who presents herself under the Messa brand, shares the same story. She specializes on creating winter jackets. In her collection, she focuses mainly on functional design conditioned by the needs of the urban man, emphasizing precise tailoring and use of quality materials in accordance with the principles of sustainable production and environmental responsibility.

To sum up, BackYard celebrated its first birthday in style.
