Do you want to make your Autumn nicer with some musical classics? Or rather with hip-hop, jazz, electronic or soul music? We have good news for you if you do. The 23th year of the multi-genre musical festival titled Strings of Autumn has started in Prague. The festival will take place until November 13th.
The Strings of Autumn festival was kicked off by the charismatic British singer Laura Mvula. This beautiful diva showed off in Prague for the very first time, alongside the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra and the Czech-Slovak jazz trio Levíček–Uhrík–Novák. The 30-year-old artist, dubbed Nina Simone, took many a fan's breath away with her outstanding voice.
If you missed Laura, you certainly don't have to despair. There are many days left before the end of the festival, bringing the chance to see many more, different artists. At Convent of Saint Agnes you can be a part of a double Prague premier of an icon, Fred Hersch, playing jazz piano. First, he'll blow you away by his solo recital, then a concert of his trio.
La Fabrika will host the performance of the string quartet Jack Quartet, which will perform the complete quartets by Iannis Xenakis - avant-garde, visceral and thrilling. Just wow!
The festival doesn't only present foreign artists, though. Tickets to Jiří Suchý's recital sold like hotcakes. Strings of Autumn is fulfilling Šlitr's wish in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of his passing with a project centered around the still-living esteemed musician Jiří Suchý, the other half of the famous duo.
Strings of Autumn will bring the legendary TV show Recital 64 to life in concert form, with a series of songs by Jiří Suchý and Jiří Šlitr originally filmed in 1964 at Barrandov Studios. The concert audience may look forward to an exclusive musical experience with timeless songs from the so-called golden era of Semafor Theater.
The Strings of Autumn festival was started in 1996 and even back then it already established a track record of being one of the most important musical events in the Czech Republic. The lineup of the festival relies on the impulses across musical eras and genres and brings its audience unique and intimate experiences at the diverse festival stages across Prague.
