Transparent fabrics, chic suits, luxury pencil skirts, but also straitjackets. Before the introduction of the classic line, Gucci's creative director Alessandro Michele offered the guests an unusual spectacle. What does it look like, when mad people in straitjackets begin to move around you on escalators, submerged in red light and accompanied by strange sounds? Watch a video of the show and see for yourselves.

Without limits

What did the brand intend with this show? It showed how today's society can suppress and limit individuality and what role seemingly harmless uniforms can play in our lives. A cure against these restrictions? The new SS20 collection of course!

From unorthodox pieces to classics

After a cultural, philosophical and slightly frightening parenthesis, a classic fashion show began, full of unorthodox and - much to everyone's surprise - also wearable models. Let's start with the pleasant part and have a look at the models that every lover of luxury and elegant classics can wear.

Revealed skin is IN

What kind of a fashion show would it be if naked brests were missing? This trend is already connected with the fashion week as tightly as the catwalk itself. There was no lack of transparent fabrics at the Gucci show either, and when breasts couldn't be seen, panties made up for it. What to take away from this? Probably the fact that if you refuse to show a bit of skin, it may easily happen that you'll be totally OUT next summer!

The most horrible make-up of the year

What Gucci totally failed at this time is the make-up. If there was a competition for the ugliest make-up of the year, Gucci would have won by landslide. But why wonder. Eyebrows have been a problem area for decades and as you can see, it's not going to change any time soon.

The cat-o'-nine-tails used to scare us at school and it's happening again!

For us, the absolute flop is definitely the nightgown model complemented by a latex collar, red gloves and cat-o'-nine-tails. If you walk into the bedroom like this, your partner is likely to fall unconscious, never to wake up again. Sexy? Hell no!

Mental disorders are out of fashion

Well, this was a good one. I was quite amused while watching a video from the fashion show of the Italian clothing brand Gucci. Imagine you're sitting on a plastic chair in a darkened hall, suddenly the lights are turned on and you find yourself surrounded by a moving heap of frowning people in straitjackets, who have a message saying that mental disorders are out of fashion written on their palms... Had I been there in person, I would have been shocked out of my mind, because they then switched the lights off again and at that moment, I was already freaking out at the thought that mad patients would be running around with needles and injecting the guests with truckloads of sedatives.

Anyway - joking aside, the idea is definitely nice. It's good that the fashion industry responds to long-term problems in society, but I don't want to have a straitjacket in my wardrobe. The fashion show aimed to tell the world that today's society has a tendency to suppress individuality and if you buy a Gucci piece, you can get a bit of your your originality back. So, I was relieved to find out that those uniform jackets weren't part of the collection, but...

Depressive black

...looking at some of those models, I feel like running to the for a bottle of Xanax. I'd say Gucci went too wild on the originality, bordering on insanity. Look at this girl, for example.

Does she seem happy to you, not suffering from any mental disorders? Not to me. And this ethereal depressive throw doesn't exude an atmosphere of happiness either. It's nice that black makes you look slimmer, but here it might be showing a bit more than it should.

Negligee

I don't even want to imagine these "I'm about to go to bed, but I'm gonna give the pole a spin before that" type of models in real life. When I go grocery shopping, I definitely won't be wearing a luxury nightgown with latex boots and long gloves that are trendy in Amsterdam's red. Only Carrie in Sex in the City can afford that. And I don't think she'd go for it either, unless it was a paid ad for underwear.

Normality wins over perversion

But I won't be entirely condemning. Some pieces are wearable even for the ordinary mortal, whether on the way to work or to the therapist. Fitted skirts with a skintight T-shirt are an evergreen, some dresses are colorful and cheerful, so they'll make your mood better on rainy days, and there's always some room in the wardrobe for a fancy blazer with trousers.

Like other brands, Gucci simply strives to attract attention. Human normality has never been clearly defined, so... anything goes!

Besides, just like the Burberry show last week in London, the Gucci fashion house is trying to reduce its carbon footprint and produce from recycled and recyclable materials here. Whence, when you're about to spend a truckload of money on models that may seem bizzare to some, you'll at least have a good feeling about helping save our planet.
