When creating the new Dior collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri decided to combine her creative passion with the Puglia region, which is close to her heart, bringing a bit of "folklore" into the collection. There would be nothing wrong with that, if her actions hadn't resulted in models riddled with unflattering corsets, shapeless knitted sweaters or farmer's scarves. Let's face it, city girls have zero interest in wearing those!
Cruise 2021 strives to combine classic values, culture and the future of exceptional craftsmanship. The term "strives" being more than apt in this case. Yes, the new Dior collection undisputably has a huge potential. You rarely get to see this many amazing models together, so why did the luxury fashion house Dior decide to trample them into the ground?
Corsets as a form of punishment
We all want to have a slim waist and sexy curves, but is it really necessary to achieve them with unflattering corsets??? Those scarves are the final nail in the coffin. We feel like we've been transported several centuries into the past. We understand that the scarves are supposed to follow the Italian tradition, but would anyone be willing to wear them? The hippie models left our hearts cold as well, seeing as they seem to have been stitched together from randomly found items.

When silk meets wheat…
We really enjoy some of the models with a touch of country style. For example, this luxurious black silk dress decorated with a motif of a wheat stalk? Spectacular! It's sexy and feminine while keeping in line with Maria Grazia Chiuri's Puglia vision.

In other words, a Dior collection designed for daily wear. Well... you know what, I'm not sure about this. As I said before (and every other super cool hipster girl/lady would agree with me), I like simpler things and quality materials, and I don't mind buying my basic t-shirt at H&M. By which I mean that I'm not really into these seasonal trends. Only exceptionally. Therefore I sorted this Cruise collection into four groups:
1.) LOL
2.) It's Britney Bitch
3.) Gimme!
4.) But why

Seeing these models, I don't know if I should laugh or cry. I mean, they can't seriously think that someone would voluntarily buy this, can they?! It could work as a costume for a themed party, but it's way too expensive for that. Well, to sum it up, if you want to be single for the rest of your life, go for it.

The first thing that came to mind when I looked at these models was Britney. But, like, instantly. Do you remember? Denim models in all kinds of possible and impossible combinations, including matching outfits with her then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake. Unfortunately, this image overrides everything else, so I have no more words to describe these models. Although... Wait a minute! Don't the sleeves remind you of those small hand-made cotton balls that elementary school kids were so crazy about?

Let it be known that I accept gifts! Gimme? T'll take any of these models. They seem wearable and I assume the materials and craftsmanship will be outstanding, too. I chose four pieces - a summer evening dress, a floral day outfit for the city centre, a delicate cream-colored dress that may not look like much, but for me it's the one piece you can wear in a gazzilion of ways without getting tired of it. And finally, a lightweight black and white set with a jacket, where each piece can be worn separately and at the same time these are exactly the pieces you want to be flawlessly sewn.

In the last chapter, we will look at models where I'd always like to remove or add a certain element. In both cases, the waist spoils the overall impression for me. I understand that the corset was probably an attempt to make the whole model look more unique or to create the Esmeralda feel, so I'm willing to turn a blind eye there, but I'd definitely take it off for everyday wear (if I could). If not, I'd have the dress sewn without one, because I really like the fabric and the cut; the dress is ideal for spring or summer. In case of the second dress, I find the belt too robust and colorful. I'd like to preserve the softness of the dress, created by the semi-transparent fabric in combination with the cut, with the colorful bag being the only crazy fashion element. Okay, I might keep the belt, but only if it were available in black-gold or brown-gold.
Look at that, aren't I a smartass? Well, that's enough for today! :-)
