You will also be able to admire the beautiful premises of the newly renovated museum, as it opens to the public on October 28th and will be free until the end of the year. The reconstruction was very expensive, lasted 42 months and the result is really worth it!

The architectural gem finally has the form it deserves!

The museum is a true Prague and Czech architectural gem, which was created according to Josef Schulz's design in the years 1885-1891. In 2015, the building was in a state of emergency and a general reconstruction was commenced.

"It was the most complex and the most extensive reconstruction in the history of the Czech Republic," said the director of the National Museum, Michal Lukeš, at the press conference.

The complete reconstruction involved new technologies, wiring, lifts and, of course, restoration works. The building is a national cultural monument, so great emphasis was placed on the accurate monumental appearance and restoration to the original form of the building.

The grandeur of the museum is evident from its exterior

There is no doubt that the interiors are absolutely luxurious. However, the National Museum building can now captivate also from the outside. The luxurious, lighter facade looks clean and the gilded elements on the roof and walls are beautifully accentuated. The surrounding area that makes the building stand out also got a makeover. Finally, this beautiful and important building for the Czech Republic is as representative as it should be!

The start of operation

The National Museum's historic building will be opened on October 27th, 2018 at 4 pm at the Pantheon of the National Museum with the participation of the highest constitutional officials of the Czech Republic and foreign guests.

At 8.00 and at 9.00 pm, a unique video-mapping entitled WITNESS OF HISTORY will be screened on the facade of the National Museum.

The National Museum will be open for visitors on October 28th, 2018 from 10.00 am and two exhibitions can be seen: the Czech-Slovak/Slovak-Czech exhibition and 2 × 100 exhibition.
