Dress code? Do not hold back

Refined models created with exaggeration, humour and mild theatricality. That's what the famous people's outfits of the prestigious 71st Met Gala in New York should look like according to the dress code. Who has mastered this task and who was unnecessarily holding back? Fashion Against the Stream knows!

Lady Gaga in lingerie, Katy Perry with a chandelier on her head

The quirky Lady Gaga entered the red carpet in Brandon Maxwell's fuchsia robe just to take it off, then took off two more layers of dresses and ended up in black lingerie with sequins, fishnet tights and platform shoes. This is what we call an extravagant entry to the Met Gala!

Jennifer Lopez was also very sexy. Deep décolleté, a high slit and lots of shimmer - the exotic beauty on the red carpet in Versace's luxurious dress shone and showed off her typical sexy style you can't get tired of.

This time, Katy Perry made sure there was entertainment. The singer enjoys Met Gala every year and this time she stuck to the dress code perfectly. The outfit à la chandelier has no flaws.

The most complicated model was presented by Cardi B

Undoubtedly, the most spectacular robe was Cardi B's. The red Thom Brown dress boasts an endless cascade of feathers - this piece on the red carpet cannot be overlooked.

Who really impressed us with her outfit, however, is Cara Delevingne, who arrived at the luxury event in a colourful dress from the Dior Haute Couture 2019 collection. Where else would you wear such a piece other than Met Gala?

Gisele Bündchen and Naomi Campbell were not impressive

What do the successful supermodels have in common? Both wore wonderful gowns that would otherwise be flawless on a red carpet - Gisele had a divine dress by Dior and Naomi wore a violet gown by Valentino. But within the extravagant Met Gala, their outfits represent a delicate but boring beauty.

And who was completely off this year?

This really did not work out! Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova put on an unflattering Givenchy Couture model, and she shouldn't have. With a black tulle-skirt dress, she and Solange Knowles in a Salavatore Ferragamo model were among the worst-dressed celebrities.

Although Donatella Versace won the dresscode and the preparation of her phosphor green dress with the inscription "divine" took many hours in her own words, the result was mixed. The queen of plastic surgery has worn a lot better models in the past editions of Met Gala, and this is a misstep.

This year's theme of the Met Gala megaevent was the motto: 'Camp: Notes on Fashion'. The theme is inspired by the 1964 essay “Camp” by Susan Sontag. It was a sort of first introduction, a journey into the world of artistic mainstream. How did the most radiant faces deal with the journey into the mainstream? Let's have a look now!

Cara Delevigne at the top

For me, the absolute best was top model Cara. Her Dior Haute Couture rainbow mini dress with a bold headband and stockings is just simply the best! Unmissable, bold and the most original concept. Plus the cane and make-up spiced with an orange stripe across her face... Not everyone could pull this off... but Cara just scored maximum points!

The boogeyman of the party Katy Perry

Beware, there is a risk of electric shock. Exactly this sign was the last thing Katy Perry was missing around her neck. Chandelier? Okay, there are luxury chandeliers in theatres everywhere... but bringing a polished chandelier by Jeremy Scott to the Met Gala? No! As if it was not enough that his last three collections were nothing extra… This is really bad all over and rather than art as such it reminds me of a costume from a bad circus performance “Panoptikum”.

Inflatable Cardi B

I consider rapper Cardi B as an African American version of Lady Gaga. Of course she had to wear something that is just too much. This monstrous burgundy robe by Thom Brown reminds me of an infomercial inflatable mattress that I was watching while night-feeding my baby years ago. Benefits? If she accidentally fell down the stairs, it wouldn't hurt!

French beauty in a Brazilian style

Gisele Bündchen undoubtedly was the princess of the evening. Her delicate pink pleated robe from Dior was just perfect! Simple make-up, smooth hair and fine jewellery. Note the snake earring detail that goes through the whole ear - in short, power in small detail. I may have really fallen in love!

Marie Sharapova's tennis out

Givenchy's black-red-and-white robe, worn by one of the world's most famous tennis players, was a bad choice right from the start, including make-up. It looks the same as an average German's holiday breakfast plate. From mayonnaise salad to pancakes with Nutella. At Met Gala like this? Such a shame!

Triple Lady Gaga

Lately, Lady Gaga has always been dressed like a lady. Whether at the Oscars or at the Golden Globes. Therefore, it is quite possible that she missed her older "wild" self. Brandon Maxwell has created a giant cloak, a seductive tight dress in the style of Marilyn Monroe, and finally sequin lingerie with transvestite shoes. My impression? It's Lady Gaga, and she just has to go through these things. I really enjoy this cheeky girl! :)
