Advent is here! On 2 December at 4:30 p.m., the Christmas tree on Prague’s Old Town Square was ceremoniously lit up, accompanied by luxurious music. Thousands of people turned up to enjoy the charming Christmas atmosphere.

The spruce on Old Town Square is about 70 years old and comes from a private lot in the town of Roztoky u Křivoklátu. Right now, it is the most important tree in the Czech Republic and was decorated accordingly! It features beautiful, large stray decorations, garlands of gold and red balls and giant decorations of various shapes. The magical atmosphere is underscored by 600 shiny stars. At the tip is a luxurious 3 metre long and 1.5 metre tall comet!

The tree will be lit ever day

This luxurious Christmas stunner was lit for the first time on 2 December at 4:30 p.m., but if you weren’t able to make it, don’t be sad. It will be lit again regularly every day at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. The light animation last about 2 minutes and alternates the musical motif of Moldau from Bedřich Smetana’s My Country cycle, along with a song from the Giant Mountain Fairy Tales by Vadim Petrov.

Magical atmosphere in the heart of Prague!

A luxurious new lookout terrace right next to the Christmas tree has been set up on the Square. The lookout bridge and tower has an area of 36 m², which is double the size we are used to from the past!

In addition to the traditional Christmas markets, which are visited by thousands of tourists every year, the organisers prepared twenty decorated house gables this year. These represent prominent Prague personalities and crucial events in our history. The gables are dedicated to Charles IV, Rudolf II, Rabi Löw and Franz Kafka.

You can enjoy roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, sausages, crepes and many more goodies at the Christmas markets.
