Today, the nation's beloved singer Karel Gott, who died last October at the age of 80, would have celebrated his 81st birthday. It was customary for congratulators to give the Maestro their best wishes directly in front of his house in Malvazinky. Now most fans, but also celebrities, will meet at the place of his last rest - in the Malvazinky cemetery.
The first congratulators had already begun to arrive over the weekend to symbolically congratulate the Maestro and pay him their respects. Candles, flowers or birthday cards started to appear at his magnificent tombstone. Gott's final resting place is always so full in the evening that the cemetery administration has to remove the candles and flower gifts for other visitors. More fans not only from across the Czech Republic, but also from Slovakia and Germany are expected to arrive.
Although fans visit Karel Gott's grave regularly, the Cemetery Administration expects an extremely huge influx today. Because of this special event, the tombstone was also properly cleaned. However, candles and flower gifts need to be regularly removed to prevent a possible fire. In January, a flower decoration from the widow Ivana caught fire from the candles.
According to LP-life.cz, no special measures will be taken. Everything is expected to go smoothly, without the need for any roadblocks or police supervision. The widow Ivana and her daughters will probably not visit the grave on Tuesday, they are supposed to be on vacation. As for Dominika Gottová, she stated that whether or not she visits her father's grave on his birthday would depend on the presence of the media. She rather considers to do so at the end of the week.
Karel Gott succumbed to acute leukemia on October 1, 2019, shortly before midnight. Two funerals were arranged for the Maestro. One for the public in Prague's Žofín and another for those invited in the Cathedral of St. Vitus at the Prague Castle. It is a great loss for both the family and the whole nation. But his fans remain loyal...
