Jimmy Choo is an emotional affair for many a woman. In collaboration with Off-White, a SS 2018 collection has been created which is inspired by the British Princess Diana and which contains a lot of interesting items – high heels in plastic for example!
While creating the SS 2018 collection, the luxurious Malaysian designer Jimmy Choo joined forces with the Milan-based fashion brand Off-White. The otherwise streetwear label Off-White created a collection full of aesthetic freshness and independence under the guidance of Virgil Abloh. Paris Fashion Week introduced an unusual collection where one of the most highly-discussed items was without a doubt footwear!
Luxury stilettos entitled Anne, Claire, Elisabeth, Jane and Sara in plastic certainly were a controversial item. The high heels themselves are beautiful, but in combination with plastic, they give a tackier impression than they deserve. On top of that, they will be quite impractical with the approaching spring and summer! They might protect you from the first rain, but as temperatures increase, your feet will most like be calling out for help!
The SS 2018 collection is inspired by the beloved Diana, Princess of Wales. Apart from classic items such as beautiful suits in pastel pink or blue which won us over with their simplicity, Virgil Abloh decided to also reach for less formal outfits. The supermodel Naomi Campbell wore a luxurious white jacket in combination with cycling shorts and we also saw leather trousers on the catwalk as well as a denim outfit which the princess wore to society events during her lifetime.
Apart from floral patterns or polka dots, the collection is also dominated by tulle, satin and leather. What things do we like? The black and grey corset dress with a luxuriously wide skirt. On the contrary, we regard the grey pleated suit in combination with high heels with a maxi-bow and weird elongated handbag as a mistake.
The high heels in plastic have for example already been worn in public by Rihanna who wore the Claire model. Official sale of the luxury Off-White ™ C/O Jimmy Choo collection will not however start until 21.2.2018.
I love shoes by Jimmy Choo, just like almost every other woman on this planet. Unfortunately, looking at the S/S 2018 collection, I am somewhat taken aback. Why on earth would anyone wear beautiful high heels wrapped in a plastic bag like rolls from the supermarket? Not to mention the odour when you take them off …
Even the only pair of shoes which interested me (silver with tinkling crystals) in the end make me quite angry. That see-through tip reminds me of the terrible-looking see-through plastic bags from the start of the millennium. And guess what: they didn’t catch on either!
The only thing I like in this collection is the interestingly cut jacket worn by Naomi Campbell. And the ensemble with the pink trousers and white blouse exposing the belly button – you could wear that to a great garden party. But however hard I try, apart from the two pastel suits, nothing here reminds me of Princess Diana. This is why I see use of her name as a vulgar marketing ploy to increase sales. How contemptible!
