The Holešovice Exhibition Grounds are not stopping
The grounds have not yet had a break this summer and will not have one for a long time. After the luxurious Metronome music festival, where Massive Attack and the best electro in the form of Chemical Brothers played, thousands of lovers of Harley-Davidson rallied there. At the end of September, the huge spaces will be flooded with superheroes and celebrities from the world comics and games at the PragueCon festival. Meanwhile, there are, of course, lots of events, including the luxurious summer cinema by Křižík's Fountain.
An ideal place for big events
The Prague Exhibition Grounds are a luxurious space in the center of Prague, in Holešovice, and it is no wonder that this is the ideal place for big events. It's made for music festivals (Metronome), big rallies (115 years of Harley-Davidson), and events related to entertainment, art or culture (PragueCon, Designblok, the Matthew Fair).
A space built in record time
It has stood here since 1891 when this area was taken out of Stromovka Park. This year, the Jubilee Provincial Exhibition was held here. The center became the luxurious industrial palace built in Art Nouveau style, designed by architect Antonín Wiehl (we wrote about it in the article Czech Architects: Antonín Wiehl and his influence on the appearance of Prague) and Bedřich Münzeberger. The entire construction took only one year! And that's really rocket speed.
František Křížek, who also built a light fountain here, was responsible for the lighting construction.
The Prague Exhibition Grounds have not evaded fires – the whole Brussels pavilion burned down in 1991, the circular wooden Globe Theater burned in 2005 and the left wing of the Industrial Palace burned in 2008.
