Have you ever thought about what happens to a toothpaste tube after you've squeezed the last drop out on your toothbrush and thrown it in the trash? The answer is: nothing. These plastic tubes have been estimated to decompose for nearly five hundred years, as complete recycling is not possible in a number of toothpastes. Don't worry, we're not going to advise you to solve the problem by stopping to brush your teeth completely. Two Canadian entrepreneurs brought a toothpaste in the form of tablets to the market, which behaves like a regular tooth paste. It generates foam in your mouth, and it even has a similar taste.
The founders Damien Vince and Mike Medicoff were inspired by Mike's 16-year-old daughter, who made it her goal to eradicate disposable plastics from their home.
"It takes nearly half a century for one tube of toothpaste to decompose, before it breaks down completely. If we really want to protect the environment, a fundamental change needs to take place, and that's why we've developed a toothpaste in the form of tablets,"
claimed both inventors, who deliver the tablets to their customers in compostable paper bags. The duo of friends had experimented with 119 recipes before they were completely satisfied with the tablet.
The small white tablet, which replaces the need for toothpaste, is designed to be placed in the mouth between the back teeth and gently chewed. Due to the fact that the tablet starts foaming immediately, according to the manufacturers, all you have to do next is start brushing your teeth with a wet toothbrush.
After placing your order, you'll receive the zero-waste tablets in a compostable paper bag, each pack containing 65 tablets. Customers can also buy a bamboo toothbrush together with the tablets. Although the Change Toothpaste product presently doesn't contain fluoride, the entrepreneurs are currently working on a new formula that will contain fluoride compounds, known to help prevent cavities.
The mint flavored tablets cost less than ten US dollars, which is equivalent to 230 Czech crowns. One pack should last for a whole month, and in addition to the feeling of satisfaction from having contributed to environmental protection, it will also help you avoid quarrels caused by splotches of toothpaste on the sink.
