The first weekend in the new year 2021 is approaching! What's new in our home country and in the world? Justin Bieber covered up his tattoos for his new video, the Senate overruled Donald Trump's veto, and the Czech representative Tomáš Souček was once again celebrated by the English media.
Central Bohemian rescuers intervened on Thursday afternoon in Jenštejn near Prague, where an eight-year-old girl was bitten by an unidentified snake in the garden by her house. According to available information, she got bitten through ankle winter boots. An analysis of the girl's blood revealed that the bite was most likely from a rattlesnake. According to a photograph of the injured girl's leg and the size of the snake's bite, herpertologists determined that it was most probably an adult snake with a length of 1.5 to 2.5 meters and a weight of 6 to 8 kilograms.
The case is now being handled by the police. People who have experience with breeding poisonous snakes, volunteer firefighters and local breeders are looking for the snake as well. They went from house to house, telling people to keep their windows and doors shut and not to let dogs roam in the gardens. According to local breeders, no one in the area officially owns such a snake and it is not yet clear whether it really is somewhere in the area. The search for the snake should continue in Jenštejn throughout Saturday.
The US Congress has overriden President Donald Trump's veto of a defense policy bill, for the very first time in his 4-year term. The Republican-controlled Senate held an extraordinary New Year's session to discuss this step, which has already been voted on by the House of Representatives, overriding President Donald Trump's veto and approving a $ 740 billion (nearly $ 16 trillion) defense budget bill.
Why did the Congress have to take this step? Laws passed by the Congress need to be signed by the president. In exceptional cases, the president may choose to veto or reject a bill due to political disagreements. Trump, who is due to leave office on January 20, had previously vetoed eight bills backed by the Republicans in the Congress. His earlier vetoes had been revoked in all cases.
Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives and at the same time the most powerful Democrat in the Congress, said that Trump's veto was damaging American troops, undermining American security and weakening the power of Congress.
