Luxurious gowns in delicate white, silver or gold featuring a plethora of fluffy skirts, sequins, feathers or tulle? It's not a dream, but reality. From colors to minimalism
While the latest two collections, Haute Couture SS20 and AW19, carried in the spirit of bold colors and patterns, including yellow, purple and deep red, in preparation for this year's collection, Valentino and its creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli decided to turn 180 degrees. Bold colors were replaced by gentle white in combination with other subtle shades, and instead of eccentric headgear and jewelry, a distinctively more minimalist version was used... And it was the perfect move.

Too much?
When you look at AW 2020-21, you'll immediately feel the need to get married this very moment, and if you are already married, you'll want to tie the knot for the second time. Yes, some of the models might look like it's too much, such as this cotton candy dress (it will probably take your prospective husband the whole night to get you out of it), but that's Valentino for you! The term "too much" doesn't exist with this fashion house.

In addition to fluffy gowns tailor-made for the altar, the Italian brand also introduced luxury models full of glitter that have an entirely ethereal effect in combination with acrobatic rings.

How should I put it... The Valentino wedding collection actually comes right on time for me, as a friend of mine is getting married, thus I've seen a fair share of white gowns recently. Having browsed through a myriad of cake-like 80s models, with lace everywhere you look and enough sequins for an entire cabaret act, I began to wonder if it wouldn't be better to cancel the wedding dinner and go for a dress of a higher class instead.
Haute Couture isn't always about wearability of the presented models, but rather about precise, honest workmanship and materials of the highest quality. In this respect, I believe there's no reason to doubt the Valentino collection. My amateur opinion on the other matter, namely what looks aesthetically pleasing and what doesn't, follows.

I'm going to start with a fairy tale, and I'll look at it from a realistic perspective. The dress is beautiful - a rich portion of whipped cream, light as a feather. And I'm not being sarcastic right now. The workmanship of both the first fabric and the feathers is incredible. I can't even imagine all the work behind this, and the amount of fabric used! Well, eco activists probably won't be thrilled. If I'm supposed to be critical, it's not wearable at all - unless you suffer from a phobias of being surrounded by people, in which case this is the perfect dress for you. But I can very well imagine both of these models shortened, deflated and taken out for a party.

Dancing in the moonlight, everybody... If your wedding theme is 80/90's disco, jump for joy! With this model, you'll save on a disco ball and other decorations. I have to admit, though, that I really enjoy how different the models are from each other. By which I mean very different. It's really enjoyable, and if I employ my critically-realistic approach again, even this dress could be altered into a wearable verstion. Of course, it's a question whether it's a good idea to cut into a dress that costs as much as a new car.
Ancient mythology? Yes please!

Not bad at all! This piece reminds me of the Elves from the Lord of the Rings or the Ancient Greek Myths and Legends. Once again, the model proves that nothing succeeds like simplicity, and I think that carefully selected jewelry or flowers would take the outfit to the next level.

This dress was either tailor-made for the Ice Queen, or for Friday night regulars in the Hoochie Coochie bar. I ignore the fact that there are people among us who want to have a wedding in the winter. It's pure nonsense. Otherwise, I kinda like the silver jumpsuit. A pretty cool outfit, if you're invited for Cher's wedding or if you wish to become the next Lady Gaga.
