Koronavirus a nápad s úsměvem

Medical workers in the USA came up with a beautiful gesture. Healthcare professionals who care for those who failed to avoid the Covid-19 disease are trying help with great optimism. But how to make it show while hidden behind face masks, unable to smile? One of the doctors had an ingenious idea that other colleagues began to copy.

Can you imagine what it's like to operate in the first line, wearing all sorts of protective aids on a full-day shift, which make it difficult for you to breathe or even move, further complicating any manipulation? It's definitely not a walk in the park. The suits paramedics are wearing cover them from head to toe; they are equipped with face masks or shields, protective goggles and rubber gloves. As though everything human, warm and soothing, like a smile, had completely disappeared.

A smile makes everything better, don't you think?

Therapist Robertino Rodriguez from a hospital in San Diego, USA, who came up with an idea full of optimism, attracted a lot of attention. He pinned a photo on his protective suit to encourage his patients and people around him. It made him feel miserable, having to walk in a room with his face covered and take care of the sick, who had no idea who was "hiding" in the suit. Who is the person taking care of their health and what does he actually look like? In the doctor's own words: "A smile can do wonders for a frightened patient. That's why I made a big, plastic-sealed photo of myself smiling, so that my patients could see a comforting smile."

An avalanche of reactions. Sometimes one photo is enough

He shared the photo on a social network. And he didn't have to wait long for the response. Words of thanks, praise, kindness and immense support were storming in from all sides. Many of Rodriguez's fans left a supportive comment: "Words are not enough to thank you for your compassion for your patients - even in these stressful times, when you too must be concerned about your own health and safety - you continue to put the needs of others in the first place. We're lucky to have you in San Diego." His creativity and ingenuity keep spreading and he's become a source of inspiration for countless medical facilities and their staff.

Maybe this new "trend" will reach the Czech Republic, too!
