Measures taken against the spread of coronavirus have dealt a severe blow to the fashion industry. Classic fashion shows were canceled, so the designers had to move to Plan B - to use the full potential of the online world. This form of fashion shows is still relatively fresh, and as such might surprise with its artistic rendition. And nobody could have expected what Dior came up with. This breathtaking surreal spectacle will render you speechless…
Oh, oh, oh… We have to openly admit that we've never been as excited about any collection as Dior Haute Couture Fall 2020. Forget the worries of everyday life and explore with us a diverse world of fantastic sceneries, which include, among other things, mermaids, nymphs, living statues, unspoiled nature and, last but not least, luxurious Dior robes…
The man behind the almost 15-minute film is one of the most talented and respected Italian directors, Matteo Garrone, known for films such as Pinocchio, Dogman or Tale of Tales. Dior's tale is woven from many stories and passions, and it begins where the collections of fashion designers themselves are created - in a studio. Here you can admire the breathtaking craftsmanship of the Haute Couture models and their miniatures, which are then placed into a large suitcase that symbolizes Dior's iconic address 30 Avenue Montaigne. With the help of porters, the suitcase travels the magical world of Dior and the individual dresses are looking for their owners.
And what are models Dior prepared for you this time like? Literally fabulous! The new Haute Couture collection includes not only puffy skirts and large volumes, but also embroidered tulle, luxurious-looking pleated chiffon, gold accents or trendy feathers. Yes, even in such a divine collection as Fall 2020 undoubtedly is, we can find a few black sheep - namely dresses that would have been popular in the dark ages rather than now, but who cares, when there are such a few of those!
Choosing only 5 BEST models might be a form of self-torture, but we'll try anyway! Which dresses would our fashion editors kill for?
At the beginning, I have a point to make. Already before being tasked with writing this article, I'd shared the above video produced by Dior on Instagram with almost everyone I know. With comments like "oooh", "awwww", "check this out" and "so how many times have you played it?". So that's my opinion on Fall Haute Couture by Dior 2020 in a nutshell.
Ps2: Since I'm going out of my way to promote this, can't Dior send me something? I've heard of those collaborations on Instagram, and I'd be willing to say yes to this.
I'm going to repeat myself, but it's true (in general! I don't mean stuff like Giambattista Valli) that there is beauty in simplicity. That's why I enjoy the fact that Dior included a completely simple dress in their collection. And they say you can only wear Haute Couture once! In addition, I think the dress may look simple, but the design and materials will certainly be masterful. One such dress for every household!
In the spirit of simplicity, I'd like to present you another dress that you can definitely wear more than once, but at the same time, you can go alittle wild with the extend sleeves on one side and an exposed shoulder on the other. I can imagine surviving the New Year's Eve celebration in this - and that's something.
So as not to look like I really want that free dress from Dior and cooperation, here I come with a bit of criticism. I understand the cut of the jacket - quite typical of Dior and I personally like this handwriting of theirs. As for the A-line skirt, it's the same case. However, the chosen material and combination is too much for me, as a girl living in this century. And please, I'm not even a millennial, I'm from the good old nineties! But I can imagine changing the fabric and using the pieces separately. Or we can just ditch it all.
This is kind of a miss... and a fist to the eye compared to the other models. My initial reaction was, "Hell no! No to this would-be Picasso!" But thinking about it... You can see the quality of the workmanship, I like the white coat since the film The Holiday, where I saw it on the always well-dressed Cameron Diaz. And the picture? I have no idea what it means, but the colors are nice, and pair with a simple outfit... actually, it's a yes!
Oh. My. God. This is classic Haute Couture, Mr. Dior can be proud. Return to his trademark! I'm quite conservative in cerrain respects, and dresses like from the good old Christian are simply beautiful. So what if everyone remembers them! I'll gladly wear one of these for a brunch or for a walk with my dog in Stromovka. Between those shoulder pads and sandals, I'll still be a star.
The whole collection is really beautiful and worth a look. Of course, some pieces are a bit over the line, but that belongs to Haute Couture!
