What is Damsel about?

Samuel Alabaster (Robert Pattinson) is an affluent pioneer, ventures across the American frontier to marry his fiancée, Penelope (Mia Wasikowska). He is bringing wedding gifts as well as a pastor, who is supposed to marry them. But everything works out a bit differently than Samuel had imagined. Who is who, actually? In this humorous Western comedy even the pastor does not appear to be a pastor and beautiful Penelope was probably waiting for someone else.

What was the idea behind it?

Besides aiming to entertain, the main objective of David Zellner was to break down the cliché about Westerns. For example, the fact that women are just objects of men´s desire. The main hero in the film is untraditionally an Indian and the main animal a miniature horse.

"We wanted to completely turn round the expectations of the viewers," said David Zellner.
