Christmas fairy on my own!

There are children among us, who do not have the opportunity to spend Christmas in their families, or their families cannot afford Christmas presents. Choosing the project to help children took me quite a bit of time and it was not at all easy to make a decision. All children deserve presents. Finally, one project won my heart a little bit more than the others… And I decided to support it!

For my good deed, I chose the project Krabice od bot (Shoe Box), which is held for the seventh time this year.

I heard about the project Krabice od bot already last year, and this year I decided to support it. This unique pre-Christmas event happens every year, this year it was from 26th November to 9th December and its aim is to bring some joy to children from poorer families in the Czech Republic.

How does it work?

What I need it a shoe box. At home, I fill it with the things that will make children happy. The things do not have to be new, but they should not be damaged. The price and contents of the package are up to me, but I rather checked the website to see what the box should not include. Then it ought be wrapped in a Christmas wrapping paper and labelled with a tag saying who it is for. I choose the closest collecting place from the list at the website krabiceodbot.cz and I carry the box there. Children in a shelter do not get many presents and the thought of how happy a shoe box full of presents will make them warms my heart. So, let’s get to it.

How did my grant-a-wish mission go? I made my brother a Christmas elf!

Considering that the shoe box should be prepared with children, but I do not have any of my own yet, I asked my eleven year old brother for help. When I told him he would be a Christmas elf, he was not very pleased, but after finding out the purpose of the whole event, he happily helped me out.

The first task was to find a shoe box.

That was luckily quite easy, because I keep about a million of them at home! I chose a bigger one, left after my beloved Alexander McQueen shoes, and we started thinking up what to put inside. The Project Krabice od bot collects present for children aged 0 to 17 years, so we had to decide in advance for how old child of what gender we would be preparing the present. We decided for a six year old girl. Although I do not know what the girl looks like or what environment she lives in, I can imagine her. I see a little princess that feels joy about every little girly thing!

So I put into the shoe box sweet candy, a lollipop, colouring books, a plush mini unicorn, and my little helper brought his colourful crayons and a children’s book: Řekni mi, proč? (Tell me, why?), which he had already read and said it was absolutely amazing and would make everyone laugh. It will tell you about why it rains or why a fly flies, so it also teaches you something too.

Finally, we added a Christmas card with the text: Merry and magical Christmas wishes Ježíšek!

We wrapped the box in a beautiful children’s wrapping paper, on the tag we wrote age 6 years and added that it was a package for a girl. Then we only had to find the closest collecting place to bring the box to. That for us was Rodinné a komunitní centrum Jablíčkov, z.s. at Prague 10, where I handed the box to Ježíšek, to deliver it to some princess.

To finish, I would like to say that it was a beautiful and emotional experience both for myself and my Christmas elf helper... It is so nice to pick out things for someone who really needs it, knowing that it will make them smile. The price of one such package is also really low and for us it cost around 350 crowns and that is nothing compared to the happiness it will cause under the Christmas tree. My magical fairy mission is definitely not over and I will continue next year, because the fantastic feeling is really worth it!

You too can make the children’s wishes come true

The project Krabice od bot has ended, but you can still help and not only during Christmas time, but throughout the whole year. You can grant wishes of children from poor families also online. On the web krabiceodbot.cz, you can send a box online in the form of a financial donation. The organisation will buy for children and mums from Diakonie shelters presents that will spread joy for longer than just during Christmas.
