If the Czech Republic is in any way above the European average, then it is in the number of corporate websites and internet sales. Creating company accounts on social media has also experienced a big boom in recent years, but in this case we are still significantly behind the Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands, Belgium or Ireland.

"Since 2015, 83% of our companies have had their own websites. In 2020, almost 60% of companies had them adapted for mobile devices as well. It used to be only a quarter five years ago,"

says Marek Rojíček, Chairman of the Czech Statistical Office.

In case of social media, the Czech Republic is still lagging behind

In terms of social media, the Czech Republic is also experiencing development, and since 2013 the number of companies using social media has tripled, but we still lag significantly behind Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands, Belgium and Ireland, where more than two thirds of companies use this method of communication.

"Social media are booming. In 2019, 45% of companies with ten or more employees already had their own account. On social media, there are mainly travel agencies or companies operating in the field of accommodation and in the media sector,"

explains Martin Mana, Director of the Development Statistics Department of Czech Statistical Office.

Czechia and 3D printing

And what about 3D printing? In 2019, 6% of companies printed three-dimensional objects. Most often it was in industrial production, where the technology is used by about a third of companies in the automotive and electronics industries. Companies in the field of IT, telecommunications and also companies engaged in research and development were next in the ranks.

What about robots?

"In 2020, more than 60% of large companies in the manufacturing sector were already using industrial robots. In the case of small ones, it was only 9%. Industrial robots can then be found in approximately 55% of entities operating in the automotive industry,"

says Eva Myšková Skarlandtová, Head of CZSO's Research, Development and Information Society Statistics Department.

It is thus evident that the use of robotic automation is the domain of large companies in the Czech Republic. Service robots are used less in Czech companies than the industrial ones, most often for assembly or cleaning work and for work in warehouses. In 2020, 18% of companies with ten or more employees in the manufacturing industry used industrial or service robots.

44% of companies in the Czech Republic also use the Internet of Things (IoT). In this case, we are talking about automation, where modern devices can be controlled remotely via the Internet. You can easily operate them using your phone or connect them to the central unit.

About a tenth of companies regulate lighting or energy consumption thanks to the Internet of Things. A similar proportion of companies can monitor the security of their premises remotely. Smart Internet of Things devices have also found their way into production. Almost a fifth of companies monitor production processes and can optimize them in real time. However, the Internet of Things is mostly used in the field of logistics to monitor the movement of goods or the operational status of vehicles.
