Who wouldn't want to take a proper convertible for a spin and feel like a Hollywood star at least once in their lives? Like Elizabeth Taylor, who owned a famous Rolls-Royce. Her Green Goddess, as she nicknamed the car, was sold at a New York auction for $ 520,000, or 12 million crowns. Before the actual auction, however, the purchase price had been estimated at four times more.
The Silver Could II convertible from 1961 was delivered to Liz for Christmas in the 1960s in front of the Pierre Hotel, where Liz and Eddie used to live, and they were parking their Rolls-Royce there ever since. That’s the reason why the whole auction took place in this famous location.
In 1962, it traveled with the actress and her husband Eddie Fisher to Rome for the shooting of the successful movie Cleopatra. Liz chose a bright green color because it reminded her of the wedding dress she had worn during the ceremony with Eddie.

The green goddess lasted longer than the marriage
Although the actress's marriage lasted only four years, she kept the Green Goddess for a few years after the divorce. In 1970, Karel Kardel bought it from her and refused to disclose the purchase price.

“When I bought the car from Liz, my friends thought I was an idiot. Four years later, however, the price of the convertible catapulted, and I became a genius. In the next four years its value fell again and I found myself at the beginning again.”
Kardel said in an interview with the American New York Times. The anonymous buyer, whose name has not yet been published, will surely enjoy driving the famous cabriolet to the fullest.
Progressive not only for its time
Among other things, the Green Goddess boasts an unmistakable dashboard, made from exotic Carpathian elm wood. The convertible also has its own power steering, which was almost unheard of in the 1950s, as well as electric windows - another feature exclusive for the time period. In addition to the 6.2-liter engine and the silver goddess sign, this beauty has something you cannot find in any other car - a small logo of love: the E and E initials on the door, which stand for Elizabeth and Eddie.
The question remains whether the actress has sat behind the wheel of her famous convertible herself. She actually didn’t have a driving license.
