This unique exhibition, operation of which is ensured by the Regional Museum in Mikulov, is a place where mammoth hunters lived 30,000 years ago. On offer for you here is a unique opportunity to view period artefacts and to gain an insight into ancient history.
The museum is located on the slopes of the Pálava Hills and you will find here skeletons, archaeological finds mapping technological achievements and also artistic objects. This area in Pálava and its surroundings represents a very important site and indicates that it was an important centre of culture and civilisation at that time.
A museum of such importance, acclaimed the world over, deserved unique “packaging”, this being a collection of architectural structures located over an area of more than 500 m² designed by the architects Radko Květ and Pavlo Pijáček.
While drawing up the architectural plans, the designers had to count on the layer with the finds being deep below the loess. Because in addition to this, the area is situated in a protected landscape area, the architects designed luxury underground buildings at a depth of 4 metres, coming out on the surface in the form of white concrete towers reminiscent of the surrounding limestone rocks. With its colour, the white concrete also evokes the colour of the bones found on site.
Luxury buildings like this did not disturb the landscape of this unique and beautiful area and in addition to this, made it possible to leave the artefacts which were found in the very place where they were uncovered. Materials used for construction were oak, glass and the above-mentioned concrete.
Perfection is also to be found in the interior, where apart from conventional presentations, you will also find modern audio-visual technology.
Implementation of building work was performed by the group of companies OHL ŽS, a. s., and SKR stav, s. r. o. The exhibition contractor is Pixl-e and the suppliers of furnishings and AV equipment are A. M. O. S. Design, s. r. o., and Lotech, s. r. o.
The museum opened last May and was awarded the title Building of the Year 2016.
