Why did directors choose such ordinary-looking cities for shooting their famous films? We've mapped out favorite movie locations and bring you a selection of those that turned out to be surprisingly nice! Take a trip here and discover their magic for yourself!
Our first tip for a trip is Pardubice. No introduction is needed for the film The Girl on a Broomstick from 1972. Do you also still see Jan Kraus as the teenage boy who ended up with rabbit ears on his head? One of the locations where the film was shot is Elementary School Staňkova in Pardubice. Petra Černocká, who had forgotten that she was no longer a witch, jumped out of the window of this very building and broke her leg. Pardubice is also famous through its gingerbread and horses. Visit the Renaissance Pardubice chateau with the East Bohemian Gallery, the beautiful town square or the nearby Kunětická Hora.

Accommodation tip: Apartments near Golf & Spa Resort Kunětická Hora (Apartment for 6 - CZK 3,300 per night)
A magical valley with a brook, a weir and a small castle nearby. That must be Ratibořice! If you haven't been here yet, you definitely should! We guarantee you'll love it. A pleasant walk leads from the chateau to Grandmother's valley, where the film was shot in 1971. Here you'll find Staré bělidlo, the old mill, and even Viktorka at the weir.
Restaurant tip: Restaurant & Café Zahradní, Česká Skalice
Acommodation tip: Wellness hotel Viktorka, the actors' house (double room for 2 - CZK 1,800 per night)
If you're looking for a romantic place not far from Prague, head to Berounka. A number of films were made here, one of them being the famous Pupendo from 2003. Do you know where it was pouring from a local cloud so heavily that "the studio was soaked, half a year of work lost, everything gone"? That's right, at Berounka, specifically in the Tornado settlement in Kazín. If castles and chateaux are open, you can combine the trip with a visit to Karlštejn Castle. And we happen to have a recommendation for a luxury accommodation with a view of this very castle!
Restaurant tip: Pizza Metro, Černošice
Accommodation tip: Hotel Karlštejn & SPA (deluxe room with castle view for 2 - CZK 3,900 per night)

Are you wondering why we're inviting you to Mělník? At first glance, the city may seem uninteresting, but there had to be something about it that attracted director Dušan Klein, who shot almost the entire first part of the Poets here (Jak svět přichází o básníky - How the World Loses Its Poets, 1982). Mělník has a beautiful chateau with wine cellars, a historic center, a fear-inducing ossuary under the Church of St. Peter and Paul and also a unique urban underground with a well. When you look at the strange circle in the middle of the square, remember that this is the place where the medieval well, which is recorded in the Czech Guinness Book of Records as the widest in our country, lies hidden underneath your feet.
Restaurant tip: Němý Medvěd - Minibrewery & Beer Bar
Accommodation tip: Pension U Zámku (double room for with breakfast for 2 - CZK 1,800 per night)

The American film Amadeus from 1984 is the work of famous czech director Miloš Forman, and many of its scenes were shot in the former Czechoslovakia. Therefore it definitely belongs on our list. The beautiful UNESCO-listed Archbishop's Castle in Kroměříž was chosen to become the place where the film portrays the unique talent of the famous and slightly insane Amadeus. The castle is absolutely stunning and its flowering gardens are no less beautiful. And while you're here, visit the remarkable Archbishop's Wine Cellars!
Restaurant tip: VeloCAFÉ
Accommodation tip: Hotel Harmony Medical and Wellness (apartment for 4 - CZK 4,600 per night, double room for 2 - CZK 2,400 per night)
