Žižkov is waiting for a big change! Eva Jiřičná won with her design of the tower

The phenomenal architect Eva Jiřičná won the international architectural competition for the reconstruction of the former Central Telecommunication Building in Žižkov, organized by Central Group. Not even other 97 architects from 30 countries got in her way. What luxury design did she come up with?
"Štrougal's Tower" or "Mordor" will go down
The building of the former Telecom, which is a famous landmark of Prague's Žižkov district in Olšanská Street, will experience an unprecedented change. The building nicknamed Štrougal's Tower (for the then Prime Minister) or Mordor Jiřičná intends to replace with a modern residential complex in the form of 3 luxurious rolling circular towers.
Her plan attracted all the jury's attention for its thoughtful connection of public space with greenery, as well as for the unusually-looking buildings, dominated by wavy balconies and bent glass. The project also counts on using state-of-the-art environmentally friendly technologies: heating with heat pumps, green roofs or rainwater recycling for watering.
She worked with ARUP, a London-based architectural company, to prepare the design. It is known for the design of the luxurious Syndey Opera or the completion of Gaudi's Sagrada Família in Barcelona.
For the time being, Central Group's exact details of the overall project are kept secret. However, on June 19, Eva Jiřičná will personally present the winning design in the Café Louvre Gallery.
“Prague cannot be just an open-air museum for tourists, but it must be a city for life,” said Dušan Kunovský, owner of Central Group.
Prague is developing at a steady pace, and if the buildings meet the parameters of a real metropolis, its existing face should change. Modern high-rise buildings are the ideal solution to meet the demand for housing and offer a transformation of the surrounding area to preserve greenery. According to Kunovský, the metropolis necessarily needs a modern and iconic architecture set among the current buildings around.
Eva Jiřičná designs construction of apartments, commercial premises, restaurants and cafes in the complex.
