The deluxe SS19 collection consists of models in bright colours and distinctive patterns. Yellow, orange, pink, red, green, blue, coral, undulating stripes, hand print or square motifs – you will find these elements and more in the newest Dries Van Noten collection, which can easily be called a refreshing endeavour for the oncoming spring and summer season.
Undulating stripes embellish the deluxe models diagonally, horizontally and vertically and the designer has applied them to nearly all the items in a man’s wardrobe. The distinctive patterns decorate looser and slim trousers, elegant coats and jackets, shirts, cotton t-shirts, sports jackets, swimsuits, men’s bags and even deluxe suits.
In spite of the whirlwind of bright colours and prints, you will also find that this collection includes several simple items in basic colours – white, black, nude, camel, khaki, which the designer either combines with at least one additional distinctive model from the SS19 collection, or occasionally leaves completely minimal. This mostly concerns elegant suits and long coats, complemented by stylish sunglasses, athletic tennis shoes or glossy men’s ankle boots. It seems that minimalism is irreplaceable in even the most colourful collection.
Even though most of the items in this collection can only be worn in real life to the beach or with an inborn measure of exhibitionism, looking at this collection will immediately bring a smile to your face. And so it is no surprise that this talented designer’s models with their modern elements are happily worn by the tenderer half of the population. This deluxe brand can be found in the wardrobes of stars such as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Mary-Kate Olsen, Gwyneth Paltrow, Blake Lively or Cate Blanchett.
What else would you call all those geometric shapes as we see them in the SS 2019 collection? It is clearly the nineteen seventies full on. I feel like I am looking at the wallpaper dominating the kitchens of the average American family from this period.....Plagiarism anyone?
Luckily there are also a few simple items in this collection, but even these are certainly not amazing. We are talking specifically about the white or dark blue suit. These suits, worn with a classic shirt, will certainly not offend anyone in everyday life (but neither will they amaze anyone), which is why they are perfect for the office. But there really isn’t anything here for people with more cultivated tastes.
And finally, I will have mercy on at least one item with a monstrous geometric pattern. The winners are the white swimsuit shorts with red and blue wavy stripes. All you need to go with these is a deckchair and a half-empty can of beer in your hand.
