A unique book: Design in the Czech lands 1900−2000

The unique new publication, Design in the Czech lands 1900-2000, is published by Academia publishing house in co-edition with the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. The book contains 20 chapters and approximately 950 accompanying photographs of items from more than 100 Czech and foreign collections and archives.

This is a luxurious book which offers a comprehensive look at a century of design in our lands. The publication will in particular be of interest to readers who work in the field of design or whose hobby is design. It will however provide enrichment to anyone who is interested in our recent history, as among other things, it shows how our lifestyle and living space have changed over the course of the 20th century. It follows transformations in the system of modern production, advertising and education.
Overview of institutions from the 20th century
At the end of this luxuriously elaborated book, the reader will find brief information about more than 300 design institutions which operated in our country during the 20th century. This for example includes the Artěl Association, the unique Cubist production of the Prague Artistic Workshops or the activity of the Union of Czechoslovak Creative Work from the time of the First Republic.
A large group of authors and several photographers cooperated on this luxury book. The text of the publication was created on the basis of institutional support for scientific research financed by the Czech Government and the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. It is the result of many years of research by a broad group of museum curators, university teachers, students and postgraduate students.
