Donald Trump often states in his presidential campaign that the rise in housing prices in the USA is due to migration, but other factors are key. Czech schools have significantly increased security measures in the last ten years. At an auction of props from the famous series Game of Thrones, some items were auctioned for more than a million dollars. According to DNA research, the discoverer of America, Christopher Columbus, was originally a Sephardic Jew.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and members of his party running for the US Senate accuse immigrants of rising housing costs, although an overview of economic data and independent research suggests their impact is limited. Former President Trump and his allies cling to housing costs, which are a major economic issue for American voters, as a reason to suppress immigration, one of the main themes of his campaign.
Inaccessible housing was the second biggest concern of registered voters regarding the US economy in the August survey by the Reuters/Ipsos agency. According to estimates by Freddie Mac, new houses and apartments have been built 30% slower in the last ten years in the US compared to before the financial crisis in 2008, resulting in a shortage of 1.5 million apartments needed to balance supply and demand. Other forecasts estimate this shortage to be up to 2.9 million apartments. However, according to the survey, migration contributes only 1% to price formation in the USA.
Turnstiles, entrance chips or camera systems. All of this is a common part of operations at Czech schools. In recent years, school principals have invested significant resources in such security measures. Today marks ten years since the attack in Žďár nad Sázavou, where a mentally ill woman stabbed a student in the premises of a secondary school. This and similar attacks motivate the increase in security measures.
"I cannot imagine that it could be completely prevented. There can always be something that could not be anticipated, because no one thought of it. Or - that someone will bypass even these systems,"
said the chairman of the Union of School Associations - CZESHA Jiří Zajíček for ČTK.
Fans of the Game of Thrones series came in large numbers to bid on hundreds of costumes, props, and other items from the series in an auction that raised over $21 million. From Thursday to Saturday, more than 900 items were on offer at the Heritage Auctions event in Dallas, including armor, swords and weapons, jewelry, and several other significant items from the HBO series.
The most expensive item was something the series' characters fought over for all eight seasons: the Iron Throne. After a six-minute bidding war, the throne sold for $1.49 million. The replica was made of plastic and cast from the original version used on screen, then it was finished with metallic paint and gemstone decorations, reported AP agency.
Spanish scientists said on Saturday that the 15th century explorer Christopher Columbus was a Sephardic Jew from Western Europe, and tried to solve centuries-old mystery using DNA analysis. Several countries have argued over the origin and the place of the last burial of this controversial figure, who from the 1390s led expeditions financed by Spain and paved the way for the European conquest of America. Many historians have questioned the traditional theory that Columbus came from the Italian Genoa, Reuters agency wrote.
