The Tour de France Celebrates 105 Years and Probably only one Czech is to Participate!
The already 105th year of the famous cycling race, Tour de France, will offer a luxurious route which will have two mountainous sections more and apart from a fifteen kilometre detour across Spain, it will almost entirely take part on French territory.
In total the racers are awaited by 3,351 kilometres, 21 stages, of which eight are flat, five hilly and six mountainous, one individual time trial and one team time trial.
Probably only one Czech is to participate: Leopold König
The luxurious route for 2018 also includes cobbles, to be conquered by riders in the ninth stage. In addition to these the route offers five mountainous stretches, reintroducing also the gruelling climb to Alpe d'Huez that awaits the cyclists in the conclusion of the 19th royal stage. As last year, this year also will present a total of 22 teams at the start. Probably only a single Czech is to appear on the starting line. Leopold König who rides in the Bora-Hansgrohe team.
The Tour de France Kits
The Tour de France yellow jersey is the most coveted item of clothing in professional cycling. The wearer is the rider who has completed the race in the least amount of time, and as such tops the overall or general classification of the race. Stage winners get the most points, the number of points on offer will vary depending upon the type of stage – with more on offer during pure sprinter’s days. The green jersey is awarded to the rider with the most points.
There are several at each stage. The luxury polka dot kits are awarded to riders who crest the Tour de France’s climbs first. The amount of points awarded depends on the severity or ‘category’ of the mountain – the bigger it is, the more points are on offer. A plain white kit is dressed by the best under-26 rider who has completed the Tour de France in the least amount of time.
The champion of the day agreed-upon by a commission of eight experts acquires the right to go with a number in a red field. The head team of team classification which always includes the times of three best racers wear black numbers on a yellow background.
