Sychrov Castle - the first choice for a plethora of filmmakers
Chateau Sychrov is a very popular location for a number of filmmakers. As such, it became a venue for dozens of films, fairy tales and TV series of both Czech and foreign productions. The fairy tales Goldilocks, The Third Prince, The Immortal Aunt, The Golden Thread or The Most Beautiful Puzzle were shot here, to name just a few. And how about films? In additions to popular movies such as The Three Musketeers or The Dark Blue World, you can also see the chateau in a LEXUS advertisement.
The first mention of Sychrov as a castle fortress dates back to the 15th century, but in the 21st century, it still stands strong and majestic, its historical beauty untouched. It is located in the Liberec Region, in a village by the same name, 6 km away from Turnov.
The most important relic of the 19th century historicizing styles
At the beginning it was a fortress, then a Baroque mansion. In 1820, the situation of the chateau changed dramatically, and after 80 years of falling dormant, it gained a new purpose - as the seat of the noble Rohan family. The first owner of this family line had the chateau rebuilt in the Empire spirit. The building development of the castle continued up to the Neo-Gothic style it boasts today. All the work was assigned to local artists and craftsmen.
A lavish park
Kamil Rohan paid special attention to the generous and luxurious English-style park. He was an enthusiastic botanist, an avid dendrologist and a collector. It was his nephew, who had a large part of his collections in the greenhouses and a small alpine removed.
At the time of the heyday, maximum harmony was achieved between the exterior, the castle interior and the park. Everything was supposed to be in perfect balance, so that the eye of the observer would encounter no interference. The main principle of the garden is the "Patte d'Oie" or goose foot - a three-axis system with individual vistas followed by planting, with the main observation point coming out of the castle terrace.
Sychrov Castle represents a luxurious Czech historical heritage that we should protect for future generations.
