Sweetsen, Jakub Neufuss

Each year Preciosa organises a competition called Master of Crystal, to which young designers may sign up as well as creative souls with their unique light fittings, made with a specific theme in mind. This year´s theme was IN AND OUT. How was this handled by the young talented hopefuls and which design managed to astonish the committee? Perhaps you would be quite surprised!

Sweet Dream of Jakub Neufuss

The winning design is called Sweetsen and it author is Jakub Neufuss, who creates jointly Jan Salanský under the brand SKUBB.

As well as the committee, our attention was caught not only by the name but by the design itself, which may seem anything but not uninteresting. That´s because the lighting is in the form of sex toys, it is made of coloured glass, and yes, it looks like a candle holder. The name thus refers to the traditional form of a candlestick and at the same time the English name invokes where the inspiration was drawn from. The light of course provokes controversial reactions - to some it seems over the top, others admire its conspicuous creativity and humour. Which side do you take?

Invitation to Preciosa

The winner was announced at a gala celebration on 25. October in the flagship store of Preciosa in Prague, Rytířská Street, where the light is also exhibited. Together with Jakub Neufuss, four more designers also won recognition, and their work is also being shown at the same address. It is Natalie Komorowska and her work Moon, František Jungvirt with his work Barok Collection, Emma Naarová and her ´Oto´ and Karolína Kučerová with her work Light Box.

If you are interested in current design work, come to see Preciosa´s seat in Rytířská Street, which currently, within the framework of Designblok also exhibits its two new additions in the family of luxury lighting fixtures - the Siren and Pearl Drop.

Designblok in conjunction with Preciosa

The greatest event in the field of design and art, Design Block will take place from 25. to 29. October. It is to welcome Preciosa at its Holešovice seat. The unique brand transforms historic lighting devices into modern context, while retaining their original aspect. The company uses the concept of Cultivation of a Chandelier, while during the Designblok festival it will, in its showroom, also present its glassmaking tools.

Mythical Siren as the newest addition to the Preciosa family

The luxurious lamp shows off a mysterious play based on experimentation with a classic bell-shaped shade. The author of this unique light is Dima Loginoff. The light encompasses three layered shades which conceal and reveal magic combinations of colours and textures. The various options of illumination mean that the Siren always offers a hidden secret which is worthwhile to discover.

“Siren is a mythical creature, beautiful, mysterious and dangerously enticing. My design of this simple, stylish and minimalist light was inspired by the world of fantasy," explains designer Dima Loginoff.

Pearl Drop as a luxury incarnation of sleek sophistication

The creation of this jewel by Frank Tjepkem was inspired by luxury women´s jewellery, as depicted on historical paintings. The light is made of hand-blown opal orbs evocative of traditional pearls, mutually interconnected by brass detail elements.

"It was specifically the 15. century painting, Woman Reading a Letter by Gerard ter Borch. I was completely absorbed by the idea of the relationship between the chandelier and the jewel, depicted on the lady´s neck," explains the designer. Its elegance is reminiscent of a beautiful, illuminated necklace. The light was produced using only glass and metal parts.

Luxury lights by Preciosa will add a touch of luxury to any interior!
