Each year Preciosa organises a competition called Master of Crystal, to which young designers may sign up as well as creative souls with their unique light fittings, made with a specific theme in mind. This year´s theme was IN AND OUT. How was this handled by the young talented hopefuls and which design managed to astonish the committee? Perhaps you would be quite surprised!
The winning design is called Sweetsen and it author is Jakub Neufuss, who creates jointly Jan Salanský under the brand SKUBB.
As well as the committee, our attention was caught not only by the name but by the design itself, which may seem anything but not uninteresting. That´s because the lighting is in the form of sex toys, it is made of coloured glass, and yes, it looks like a candle holder. The name thus refers to the traditional form of a candlestick and at the same time the English name invokes where the inspiration was drawn from. The light of course provokes controversial reactions - to some it seems over the top, others admire its conspicuous creativity and humour. Which side do you take?
The winner was announced at a gala celebration on 25. October in the flagship store of Preciosa in Prague, Rytířská Street, where the light is also exhibited. Together with Jakub Neufuss, four more designers also won recognition, and their work is also being shown at the same address. It is Natalie Komorowska and her work Moon, František Jungvirt with his work Barok Collection, Emma Naarová and her ´Oto´ and Karolína Kučerová with her work Light Box.
If you are interested in current design work, come to see Preciosa´s seat in Rytířská Street, which currently, within the framework of Designblok also exhibits its two new additions in the family of luxury lighting fixtures - the Siren and Pearl Drop.
