When French fashion designer Olivier Rousteing took over the fashion house in 2011 from veteran Christophe Decarnine, whose broken health did not allow him to keep his position of creative director, very few people suspected that Balmain would experience such a boom in the following years. Olivier Rousteing proved that he deserves the director’s chair and the S/S 2018 is, just like the previous ones, luxurious!
Tight leather trousers, fitted blazers, trendy biker jackets, long slinky shirts and coats, shoes with metal toes, chains, rivets and studs on belts and garments. The luxurious S/S 2018 collection is a thrilling rock showcase. Black and white play the leading role, complemented by camel, red, blue and light beige.
The young and talented Olivier Rousteing did not just stick to rock elements in creating his collection, but also played with other interesting styles. There are navy stripes (in fact he wore a sweater of this type at the fashion show), beige safari jackets and suede booties in the same colour, which are an interesting counterpoint to hard rock. There are also garments suitable for highly formal events – suits, luxurious tuxedos, shiny lapels and highly elegant trousers with pleats.
Olivier Rousteing is a proud Frenchman. He declares that he is proud of his native France, but just as readily admits his love for America in public. In the past, he stated that he would like America to have as capable a president as France’s Emmanuel Macron, whom he is a great supporter of. Therefore, he included certain symbolic American elements in the collection, such as the American flag or pendant of the United States of America.
What do you think of the S/S 2018 collection? Will you wear it to a rock concert and stand out like a real rock star, or would you prefer to go on safari?
