Sonia Rykiel established her brand in the 1960s, when she couldn’t find suitable clothes during her pregnancy. Looking at the luxurious FW 18/19 collection, it’s hard to believe this fact. It is obvious that the brand has undergone major changes in the past decades. Under the direction of Julie de Libran, the brand currently celebrates modern women with its outfits.
The legendary Sonia Rykiel, who passed away almost two years ago at the venerable age of 86, dressed stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot. In recent years, several designers have alternated as creative directors, and since 2014 the position is held by French designer Julie de Libran.
Energy, dynamics, bright colours, dancing models and pleasant smiles instead of stiff expressions and serious faces. The presentation of the luxurious autumn collection was more relaxed and fun than any other in recent memory.
Julie de Libran created a collection that gives modern women everything they need. Evening and day dresses, sexy minis, trend leather biker jackets, overalls, trousers and skirts, elegant suits and coats, knitwear that is typical for the brand, glittery tops and crazy furry overalls combined with equally furry snow boots. Crazy? Maybe. But one thing is certain: if you wear anything but a mini skirt with the outfit, the cold doesn’t have a chance!
As soon as the quartet of models in checkered outfits and berets on their heads tore onto the catwalk, it was obvious even from inside the venue where we are – in stylish Paris. We had waited in anticipation when the luxurious berets would finally appear at Fashion Week, and the moment finally arrived with Sonia Rykiel!
The French brand of deceased designer Sonia Rykiel presented a collection that is genuinely fun! I am delighted by the playfulness and light touch of the 1970s. Looking at the overall atmosphere of the show, which lacks strained gravity, it is like a breath of fresh air.
First of all, I must mention those perfect furry snow boots, fur coat and giant fluffy hat (of all colours!). Yes, I admit that the hat might be too much, but the snow boots are amazing! Combined with skinny ripped jeans and a cool winter headband, you will instantly become the queen of winter. I have a similar pair from Dior, and I definitely don’t just wear them in the mountains. They are great even for shopping in Pařížská Street. One of my ex-boyfriends even wore crampons on his winter boots when we went shopping once (I wanted to kill him at the time for squeaking on all the floors). That was a seriously funny moment at Louis Vuitton! But what can I say… the best man to bring along shopping is a guilty man! :)
Also worth mentioning is the gathered black dress with the crossed straps on the chest. The subtle but infinite slit is brilliant! And I really like the atypically long boots, which fully replace stockings, keep you warm and playfully turn up the heat in others. It’s definitely my favourite for a Friday evening at Hergetova Cihelna!
