The reopening of the National Museum is deliberately planned to coincide with the grand exhibition on the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia and 200 years since the foundation of the National Museum. The exhibition will bear the simple and clear title The Czech-Slovak Exhibition.

Grand celebrations in honour of the reopening

The museum will be opened with music and attending officials. The ceremony should start on 27 October at 3:30 pm and should also be attended by the Slovak prime minister. A festive toast will take place in the luxurious lookout salon in the dome of the museum.

What does the reconstructed building offer?

The reconstructed National Museum will be reopened gradually, and should be accessible in its entirety in the first half of 2020. In addition to the renovated exhibition areas, visitors can look forward to new relaxation and rest zones. Thanks to a luxurious café and children’s corner, the museum should become a place to happily spend an entire day.

Look forward to luxurious premises from the courtyard to the dome

The building foyer will open directly onto the newly built premises for visitors, which house the coatroom and toilets. You will be able to access the left-hand covered courtyard, which will be dominated by the aforementioned café, a souvenir shop and children’s corner. The covered right-hand courtyard will host a permanent exhibition. There will be 5 smaller rooms on the ground floor for short-term exhibitions and lecture rooms.

As part of the visit, you will be able to go all the way up to the glass dome, which offers a luxurious view of Wenceslas Square and panorama of the historical city with the majestic Prague Castle in the background.

The building also features a connecting corridor, which leads to the neighbouring building of the National Museum. It will be located on the second underground floor and will have multimedia effects. Its opening is planned for February 2019.

You have surely noted 28 October in your diary already. Just add the note NM and don’t miss the grand reopening of the luxurious National Museum.
