Actors on stage have a special power. They can lead the crowd, can encourage and give incentive, or masterfully manipulate their audience. In the luxurious theatre play, Queen of Ghosts, in the repertoire of the Prague A Studio Rubín, this art is presented down to the core, in the monologue of a famous post-war actress
Gabriela Míčová and Lucie Roznětínská jointly interpret the role of the famous actress of the luxurious Viennese Burgtheatre. They together play the role of one body, but two souls, friends, who talk together, wondering about how easy it is to take power over their audience. They also think about how to keep an actress special and exclusive, but still remain popular for the people.
The luxuriously and originally approached play is a fictional monologue inspired by the post-war actress, Paula Wessely. On the one hand a star of the Austrian theatre scene, on the other an actress performing in Nazi propaganda films.
It is a play of the Austrian writer and Nobel Laureate, Elfriede Jelinek and its plot and text is set in to the environment of Moravian Slovakia, into the surroundings of Uherské Hradiště, where folklore is still very much alive and where the Jewish family of Jelinek comes from. It is at the same time a place from where the entire family was sent to a concentration camp.
You will hear the original Moravian-Slovakian dialect, see genuine luxurious national costumes and samples of propaganda films. Also important however is the speech, showing the actress´ power. Saying one and the same sentence may entertain you or almost make you cry, if told differently. Simply put, she pulls the strings and the audience turns into puppets, that she can control according to her whim.
We certainly know Míčová except from the theatre from the film screen. For example, she starred in the trilogy Horticulture (Zahradnictví) or in the picture I, Olga Hepnarová. Lucie Roznětínská is a awell-known theatre actress (A Studio Rubín, the Drama Studio Ústí nad Labem, Strašnice Theatre X10), whom you could also see in the luxurious one-man show Na stojáka (Stand-up Show).
