The worldwide popularity poll in which people choose their most favorite musicians, actors, movies, songs, albums but even bands has its winners. A wide range of celebrities showed up at the award ceremony; provocateur Kim Kardashian, singers Pink, Gwen Stefani, Zendaya, Kelly Rowland, actresses Jennifer Aniston, Kat Dennings and Lisa Rinna, designer Jeremy Scott or internet starlet Bretman Rock among them. How did they fare with their outfits? Fashion Upstream took a closer look at that!
The controversial starlet Kim Kardashian threw away all extravagance this time, and it was a good choice. She wore a luxurious Versace dress with snakeskin print which accentuated her feminine curves to the award ceremony, and put on Manolo Blahnik pumps to go with it.
The beautiful singer Gwen Stefani aired out a stylish gown by Vera Wang with a long train and a short skirt in the front at the red carpet. The fishnet stockings imbue the outfit with just the right amount of a playful punk look, and we must praise the choice of footwear too. Over-the-knee boots work well with the luxurious white dress and the outfit comes of as sexy, but not cheap.
The exotic Zendaya bet on a bold model by Christopher Esber, which she can pull of with no problem with her flawless figure! We praise the gorgeous make-up, hairstyle and footwear - everything gets top marks here. This young beauty is simply well-versed in fashion.
The former Destiny's Child member wore a beautiful dress by a Dutch designer Iris Van Herpen to the awards, and our jaws literally dropped. The beautiful silver dress fits the singer perfectly.
Wow! The actress Lisa Rinna, whom everyone might remember from the series Merlose Place, showed up to People's Choice Awards in a white dress by Alex Perry and she looked better than she had those twenty years ago. And this lady is supposed to celebrate her 60th birthday soon! Awesome!
We adore Jennifer Aniston and it hurts our heart to see her looking like a buff bodybuilder that is clearly overdoing it with exercise in an attempt to stop time and stave off the aging process. The corset dress isn't a misstep, but it isn't exactly a huge hit either. Simply put, Jen was neither great nor terrible this time...
The singer Pink looked like a neckless auntie from next door in her pastel turtleneck and a pant suit by Giorgio Armani. On top of that, the pants looked like the hardcore blonde was hiding wooden stilts inside them or something. This didn't really work out.
One of the main protagonists from 2 Broke Girls showed up to People's Choice Awards wearing a dress that we can't wrap our heads around! The Maticevski dress wouldn't look good on anyone under any circumstances, and definitely not on Kat Dennings, who's barely 160 cm tall. And those hoof-like shoes? That's the last nail in the coffin!
Designer Jeremy Scott looked like he'd just run off to the awards from a fetish club next door. His bare chest with straps, a red train and something that could be dubbed footwear pose a number of questions. But the designer himself likely doesn't know the answers to those...
The internet star Bretman Rock followed in Jeremy Scott's footsteps. He chose an awkward silver and black model by designer Michael Ngo for the red carpet, and looked anything but attractive in it. We applaud the make-up though - many women would kill for that flawless cat eye look!
I have been thinking a bit about whether we have anything like a "popularity poll" in the Czech Republic. I always thought that Slavík, the Týtý Awards, the American Oscars, Emmys and so on were here for that. But having people vote online for who's their most favorite "best", be it an actor, singer or just some YouTuber... to me it just feels like they need to spend money somewhere, invite celebrities with resounding names and just have a little party in expensive clothing and entertain the public.
And they're experts on that across the pond. I have to say that I wouldn't be able to sleep from sheer anticipation of how it's going to turn out. Because fans are what secures them jobs, after all, which make them unholy amounts of money. The worst thing is that these VIPs who have unholy salaries don't even buy those Versace or Vera Wang clothes, the designers just lend those to them for free. Just so those gorgeous dresses can be seen on the red carpet. What of it, that happens over here too.
Jenifer Aniston caught my eye first. Yes, I too do love her, same as the rest of the world. But looking at these photos I want to cry. I know that time is ruthless and one day it will destroy us all. I see myself gaining wrinkles too. But, dear god, what did Rachel do to herself? Sure, black is good, never hurt anyone, but is it really necessary to show off those arms and the cleavage, and, overall, why does she look like she's come to a party from twenty years ago? Same clothes, same hair? It's important to realize that the result is not the same anymore. Next time I'd like to see some more stuff on top, less on the bottom, if you get me.
Go, youth! If you want something to delight your eyes, though, have a look at Zendaya. God, why am I not twenty anymore? This beauty is the dream of every photographer. It doesn't matter what she's wearing. Eve though in this case the singer scored with the bared midriff. While I do love her outfit, the natural envy keeps getting worse with every second I'm looking at her...
So that I'm not just nice - next time I'd choose a color other than black. Leave that to the grannies above, girl, go on and wear some colors, and make sure everything sticks to you, nothing loose! Like Pink, she can straight up go shoot herself with that outfit. I know, she may have approached it better than Jennifer, but no one can possibly buy this polite old lady she's trying to pull off...
As I said - everything in moderation. Jeremy Scott may have overshot it a little, though. Be it anything. I wouldn't even buy a plain white T-shirt from somebody who dresses himself like this. Then I thought he may have confused events. The Gay Pride Parade's already over! The Americans are really into democracy and freedom of speech, which Trump will put a stop to very soon, but this is just too much. I'm sure that this swingers party costume is made from the best materials, but I also believe the sane people among us avert their gazes just like I did. Bro, I'd send Filip Vaněk after you, he might be too much too, but he'd set you straight for sure.
In conclusion: If I was famous and was supposed to come accept an award for being the most popular woman in the Czech Republic, I would be losing sleep too. So, dear celebrities, I get that you cannot please everybody, but please, respect everyone else's mental health. It's even written in the Constitution...
